Title: Idle problems
Post by: Erik62 on February 10, 2021, 10:16:43
It's a i30 FD 2008 89kw (122hp) petrol
The car runs well but stops at idle.
No problem when I drive but stop at every traffic light. No problem to start over and drive away but very annoying.
It goes bad before it stops.
Error codes says:

P0016
Crankshaft position -Camshaft position
correlation (Bank 1 sensor a (Intake))

P0172
System too rich (Bank 1)

Here is one for a start:   :link: 2009 1.4 i30 randomly cuts out when stationary and idle (https://www.i30ownersclub.com/forum/index.php?topic=55024.0)

I think it gets too much petrol.
Cold it starts easily. Warm, it is more difficult to start. And then it goes badly at idle.
But it responds directly to the accelerator pedal and runs perfectly on country road driving.
Stops at every traffic light and it smells catalyst.

Cam, Crank correlation if it is wrong, can it then go perfectly except at idle? I have looked at the cam chain and it is possible to pull up and down about 5 millimeters between the camshafts, I do not know if it is too much. I have measured the crankshaft sensor and there is nothing wrong with it (860 Ω). Camshaft sensor I can not measure.

New tensioner and chain solved the problem.

New tensioner and chain solved the problem.

Thanks!

to help the site's lost or non-existant technical advisors,  :faint: :faint: cam position is an oil pressure related valve , easily changed and clean associated filter,

AND the FD does NOT have a chain.
