Title: Key fob didn't open car
Post by: eye30 on March 09, 2021, 19:52:43
While out today, on returning to the car I pressed the open on the fob.

The doors didn't unlock nor did the flashers flash.

Tried the door and boot to see if open but all locked.

Tried the lock button.
Nothing happened nor did the flashers flash which they would do if car locked and I press the lock button.

Tried the boot unlock.
Again no response.

Put key in drivers door lock and turned key and car unlocked amd flashers flashed.

Was able to opened all doors and boot.

Closed all and pressed lock button on fob and all doors and boot locked.

Pressed unlock and they all unlocked.....

Still unsure what has happened so as anyone got any theories...

Were you parked near a cellular mast? Been posted before that there might be intermittent interference from these metal doodaas.

Similar to yesterday here. Mrs G's fob appeared to lose battery power and I changed it out. She tried it and the car wouldn't recognise it. She used the spare instead. Then later the first fob worked again. :crazy1:

Same here, I had it at Bannys fish restaurant at Boundry mill (Colne) some years ago.  One of the servers came rushing out when he saw me struggling and said it was there WIFI and it was happening often.  Same as you, I unlocked using the key and voila everything went back to normal.  :goodjob: :goodjob: :goodjob:

There will be as it is a shopping centre with Halfords, B&Q, M&S, Aldi etc but none are visable.

I'll check next time and if I can I'll park in the same bay and see if it happens again.

First time it has happened.

When I go there I always park in the same area, away from other cars, but you can always guarantee that when you return, the car bays all around you are empty except for the one next to your car!!

There is a shopping center in Australia, with a large flat metal frontage, where cars in three specific bays sometimes cannot be opened with remotes. I think it was traced back to a pager system used by a cafe.

At Black Mountain, just west of Canberra, there is a massive Telstra (telecom) tower.
There used to be signs warning visitors of possible disruption to their cars remote central locking systems.

The used frequency on fobs depend on makes and models and the country regulations. Many cars have/had 433MHz key fob. Some PMR walkie talkies work on the same frequencies. Criminals waited on parking lots and waited people to leave their cars. They pressed talk button and jammed the RF bandwith. Many people just pushed lock button without checking if car was locked or not. After doors were left open it was easy to steal anything left inside the car.

my previous i30 wouldn't lock at home for few days - I eventually figured it out - its key transmitted on the same frequency as my home weather station and the outside thermometer had water ingress and was stuck on transmit - presumably with a stronger signal than the key fob. I replaced the thermometer and the i30 was happy then.

433Mhz was the problematic frequency.

Was back at the shoppung centre today.

Was able to park in the exact same bay.

Locked ok and opened ok.

Looked around and no visable masts but I would expect there are masts as the signal on my mobile phones was showing all bars, plus shops will all have wifi.

Will see how it goes on future visits.......
