Title: Hose Pipe Ban wef 6:00am 9 July 2010
Post by: eye30 on July 08, 2010, 16:31:30
I've just spent the last hour washing my car as I'm not going to be washing it for sometime.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/10533376.stm

Guess what is forecast for tonight ......................  Rain but of course it's the wrong type of rain or doesn't fall in the right places!!!!!!!!

Been feeling duff today, otherwise I intended to wash my car using the pressure washer.

I need to top up the pond in the front garden soon, but I can do that fairly secretly. :)

The North West of England really shouldn't run out of water !

In the UK, they let it run back into the sea

Now this really takes the biscuit:

Householders in Carlisle, Allerdale, Copeland and the north Eden Valley, all in Cumbria, are not affected, as their water comes from a different supply to the rest of the North West.

For those not familiar with NW England the places mentioned below ARE in the area which supplies the NW.

How ironic that those places don't take their water locally!!!!!

I wonder where theirs comes from?

wash my car using the pressure washer.
Is that a good idea
Also, be careful of the "truckwash" they use sometimes when "hand washing", it contains acid, can get in the crevices and "crystalise".

I don't use the really high pressure swirling head which came with my Karcher - that will remove the pointing in brickwork.  :D  I just use a lower pressure head with a fan spray - with proper car wash stuff in the pick-up bottle. Just powerful enough to remove stuck on muck but not cause any damage - or at least I've never seen any. :)

Been feeling duff today

Your girlfiend has an unusual name

Not familiar with that word being related to health

P.S. I have several waterless wash products but being from the old school I would rather use my high pressure water machine (even if it does reduce the amount in our tanks)  :'(

Just read on the UU web site that Blue Badge holders are exempt from the ban.

So.  I wonder who has a Blue Badge by me and they can water my garden

Yes here too, it's buckets only with a fine if you are caught using the hose.

Ooo :( that sounds dreadful.
Perhaps a 3am wash if you're on quiet street without nosy neighbours?

1000 pounds seems really steep.

But I might have a solution. If you don't have a dog, obtain one or borrow one from a friend.
Somehow get the dog sprayed by a skunk. Walk the dog around the neighbourhood and make sure neighbours are aware of dreadful skunk / dog mishap.

Put car in garage, and with a bucket / sponge - wet it and soap it up. Take care outside.

Under the pretext of washing the dog, take hose outside and start spraying water towards the dog. "look around" if the coast is clear, try to 'miss' the dog and spray the car on purpose.. giving it a rinse.

Problem solved

I'm not sure about the water cutting off bit. I think there'd be an issue with the Health Dep't if you cut off water to a residence.

its not a thing they do often,I've only heard of one person getting it cut off, for 48 hrs. i bet he hasn't done it again. and his neighbours wondered why he had the greenest lawn in the street. and so did a current affair, and then the water board.

I only ever wash it when it is raining, or very damp (early morning mist), and if dirty, except removing birds mess. Dirt is well soaked by then

All chores done, ready for the Grand Prix

We certainly do have a summer where I live this year, I don't think its rained properly for maybe 8 weeks now. No so good for our Scottish cousins, I notice it's "still" raining up there....

I take it that the ban doesn't apply to you down in the Midlands.

May be if I'm passing I'll pay you a visit in a few months just to wash the car.

We can use buckets, but not free-flowing water.

First ban in 14 years apparently. I don't remember.

We get welsh water, I don't recall a hosepipe ban since 1976.
