A friend has asked me to fit roofbars to her i30 hatch.
How do the covers for the fixing points come off/move, I don't want to break anything!

Just fitted some racks on my i30 and this is a very simple operation.
To remove the plugs (covers) carefully insert a flat bladed screwdriver, or similar, in the slot of the plug and slide this in the direction of the arrow. Doesn't require a lot of force as they come away easy enough. Don't forget to put them somewhere 'safe' so you can be put them back again when/if you want to take the bars off... :wink:

A coin may be a little more paint friendly.
They turn around and slide back in half way for safe keeping.

I went for the Hyundai bars, very easy to fit. I was lucky to find some on ebay from a local seller. This is the only pic I have with the box on, taken outside my house :wink:
Love your house L30N.. :razz: Any spare rooms for weary i30 travellers.. :D
Just fitted some racks I bought a couple of days ago last night so am yet to test drive them but they are wing shaped and supposed to be whisper quiet. Also have a roof pod ready to fit.
Have you had much opportunity to use yours yet? You said there not much wind noise, thats good. Have you been able to load it up, does it stow a reasonable amount of gear?

Your right, but there is little chance of damage as long as you do it carefully.
Wish I'd looked at the guide before I mounted mine didn't realise you could turn the covers around and fit them back on. Oh well :rolleyes: Guess I'll have to do that when I get a chance to take the racks off again.

Thanks folks, I did use the 'Search ' function, but obviously not well enough!
I tried the coin thing last week, but I obviously didn't use enough force, I have seen covers where the front gets pushed down then slid forward, I shall now attack them with vigour!

Attached a roof box to my racks the other day and gave it a test run over the weekend. Not too much noise and easy enough to load and unload.
Have had a Ford Territory, which is reasonably tall, for six years and can't remember needing a ladder for it but I sure needed a ladder for this job on the i30... :rolleyes: :lol:

I reckon I'm pretty happy with the i30 over the Territory, the wife still likes to drive it though as it is an auto. Been a great car!
Looking forward to giving the i30 a big run down the coast and into Tassie in a few weeks time. Hope still to catch up for a cuppa and get a look at your Camry.

Glad you got sorted, it gets easier once you've put it on once although I tend to leave mine on for months at a time, much easier to find in a car park!

I had the same idea but on enquiry you cant get them for the hatch- the CW/estate has them permanently fixed and the fixing is very different, only the "sideways" bars (for want of a better term) are available for the hatch which is a pity cause the CW bars look a bit sportier.
