Spent 3 hours this afternoon giving the car a wash, wax and polish.
Not a hose pipe in sight so that's why it took me so long as I had to keep filling up the watering can to rinse off the shampoo!!!
Here are pics of my labours:

It's come up a treat.
I don't normally wax after I've washed as I use a shampoo with wax in but today as a treat I went the whole hog.
-
Well worth the effort
-
What did you use for the shampoo, polish and wax...?
-
Now thats what I like to see, great job Lester

Great job! :)
-
Fantastic shine, wonderful effect your job !!!
-
Excellent job looks very good. 8)
Must be a pain not being able to use a hose pipe, lots of places here in Oz where they are banned as well but we are fortunate not to have that problem in our area. :)
-
I never use a hosepipe, always the watering can
-
Looks gr8 lester (nice job) .. The wife sometimes puts a hose pipe ban on me if we haven't had rain for a while but even though we've only got tanks unlikely to run out unless they spring a leak...
-
Really scrubbed up well.
Looks a treat.
-
clean as a whistle.

OK for the wash - elcheapo stuff from the £1 shop - Astonish Car Care (500ml size), Crystal Clear Wash & Wax.
http://www.astonishcleaners.com/products/car-care.php
After leathering down it looked brill and the wax seemed to have done it stuff but I decided to give it a dedicated wax treatment.
For the second wax used another elcheapo - Autoworks - Wax and Shine instant spray wax.
Now I didn't spray onto the car but onto the cloth and buffed up with good old elbow movement.
Cheap and cheerful is my moto

but what does MOT mean?

but what does MOT mean?
The Ministry of Transport test (usually abbreviated to MOT test) is an annual test of automobile safety, roadworthiness aspects and exhaust emissions which are applicable to most vehicles over three years old and every year thereafter in the United Kingdom if they are used on public roads.

...
ohhhhh. i see.
they should have tests like that here. but we don't.
any claptrap that has been paid for annually can still be seen driven along the road now and then. scary really
-
Although the test isn't due for another month (but you can have it tested upto 1 month prior to the due date) and as it's cool, wet and miserable here today I phone the MOT station and got it booked in afternoon.
Well it's been, tested and it PASSED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ps the tested even made comments on how shinny and clean it was and gave it top marks for appearance!!
Now for the service next month.
ps I asked for a price for the 3 year service and they quoted £15 less than the dealer. Unclear as to the oil speci, mine need C3, as the priced seemed low. So if the wrong oil quoted then price about same as dealer.

I totally agree - there are way too many deathtraps getting around on our roads and as long as you pay your registration your free to drive it.

After spending 3 hours washing and waxing the car I've waited patiently for rain so I can see how the waxing fares.
Here are 2 pictures taken today showing the water formed in globules:

You feel chuffed when all that hard graft gives good positive results.
Pity about the rain - Fact - It has rained at sometime during each 24 hours on each and every day since St Swithens Day. Well it has here!!
St. Swithin's Day is 15 July, a day on which people watch the weather for tradition says that whatever the weather is like on St. Swithin's Day, it will continue so for the next forty days.
There is a weather-rhyme is well known throughout the British Isles since Elizabethan times.
'St. Swithin's day if thou dost rain
For forty days it will remain
St. Swithin's day if thou be fair
For forty days 'twill rain nae mair.'
dost = does
thou = you
nae mair = no more.

I think its probably been true here too this year. Seems like we had our summer early.

From watching the weather maps I think the Midlands have been sending it north to me
-
Hey, could you send the rain a little more south-east please? (about 2.700 kms will be fine)
I'm waiting for a good rain to wash my car.
BTW, congratulations for the successing at MOT. You dazzled them for sure
