Title: Trophy 2014 Air Cond - $3k replacement?
Post by: trophy2014 on December 31, 2022, 00:46:33
Hi there,

My wife has been without AC for about 6 months now as we got 2 quotes to "fix". The first being $3.6K and the second. $3K. The weather heating up means we need to do something.

The car has been well maintained and mainly used for city commuting 2 days / week. It was re-gassed approx 3 years ago.

About 6 months ago, it started blowing warm air. Checked fuses, relays etc All looked Ok. Took it to our local reliable mechanic and was referred to A/C specialist who in turn quoted $3.6k. I was gobsmacked. Is this right? How can so many components fail at once and why is the cost similar to that of a 2nd hand engine? A second quote of $3k included itemised parts as follows:

Compressor replace, Regas, TX valve, Condenser, Flush out.

Iv looked up places who supply compressors new and they look like around $600. I haven't considered picking from a wreckers as I dont have technical skill to do myself and also mindful that I could be buying more problems.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Ronnie
