Title: 2012 GD i30 Active CRDi - Ten years on
Post by: thommo101 on April 23, 2023, 07:41:54
So I picked up my 2012 GD i30 Active CRDi in April 2013 (See  :link: 2012 GD i30 Active CRDi - One year on (https://i30ownersclub.com/forum/index.php?topic=28161.0) for my 1-year update).

Summary:
- 118,100 km travelled for an average of 5.05 L/100km economy
- It has been a great vehicle with no issues in the first 9 years of its life
- 87,000 km on the factory tyres. On its second set now.
- Minor issues with steering (plastic power steering lug and clock spring needed replacement in the last 12 months)
- Tailgate latch broke late last year. Genuine replacement part was pricey, but easy to replace
- When car is cold and on a slight incline there is a distinct rattle from dash/engine bay (I've not been able to find it!)
- Paintwork still 100% A few minor rock chips on the front
- Headlight plastic starting to get opaque
- Interior in excellent condition (my mum says it is amazing what not having children will do  )
- Factory floormats mostly good condition, other than the drivers mat that has two distinct worn heel marks

I've still been maintaining my fuel spreadsheet:
:link: i30 Fuel Usage - Google Tabellen (http://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AkJtIJ1UMWxqdGdvYVQ5QzRxeHFnQXY0dkI4Y3dQS2c&usp=sharing)

I'm still waiting for a decent affordable electric hatch (MG4 looks good) to replace the i30. So I'll probably have her for another year or two. She was definitely a great investment for $21k ten years ago.

And 2 years on it is time to say goodbye to the might i30. She has been a great car - but I've settled on another Korean option for my next - a Kia EV3. Should pick it up in 2-3 weeks.

Since my 10-year update:
- Sitting at nearly 137000 km
- Had the clutch replaced at 127411 km - had to put the foot to the floor to change gears
- Peeling of clear coat from drivers door handle, and small patch on drivers side of the top of the plastic rear spoiler. Not terribly noticeable thanks to white paint,
- Had my first damage! Reversed into a trolley at the supermarket car park (was paying too much attention to the concrete column on the side and thought the beeping was due to it!). Trolley scraped a 40x4mm groove in rear plastic bumper
- Still on original brakes, which on last service claimed to have 45-50% life remaining. The benefit of engine braking? Although maybe that is why I needed the clutch replacing!

That is about it. The second set of tires which were put on at 87000 km are now 50000 km in and still looking good.

Average total fuel economy since new is 5.07 L/100 km (spreadsheet linked in original post is still updated).
