Title: Terrifying engine noise at idle

My 2012 GD diesel now has about 70k km on it and has developed a noise in the engine at idle. It otherwise runs smooth and has good power. I'm advised its just diesel at idle noise, nothing to be concerned about. This may be the case but its irritating me and its not a thing that its done before now. Should I find a solution I'll drop it here.

Turned out to be the alternator pulley. The pulley, tensioner and belt replaced at the dealers solves the problem. Genuine parts are stupidly expensive. The dealer offered to use non genuine parts which made the price of the job far more reasonable.
