Title: Manual gearbox oil change - hot or cold?
Post by: BrendanP on January 16, 2025, 17:02:52
I'm about to change the gearbox oil on my 2015 1.6 CRDi, and was wondering whether I should take the car out for a drive to warm it up first? Obviously, the gearbox oil won't heat up as much as the engine oil, and I will have to take the front wheel off and remove the wheel arch liners to get to the fill and drain plugs. It will cool down a bit in the time it takes to do it, so is it worth getting it warm if it makes little difference to the viscosity? Needless to say, I'll make sure I can loosen off the fill plug before draining it!

When I changed mine, I warmed up but I don't think it makes that much difference, pretty straightforward job just make sure the cars level when you top up.
