Title: Timing chain
Post by: T19ger on March 07, 2025, 07:37:29
Hi guys newbi here... I've got a 2015 1.6 crdi and was wondering if anyone has a rough idea on replacement also if anyone knows what chain kit I'd need as I can find a couple of different chain kits

How many kms have you done? I have a 2015 CRDi DCT auto with nearly 400,000kms with no issues.

Unless the chain is making noise, why do you want to replace it?

As long as you perform regular oil and filter changes (every 10,000 miles or 12 months) the chain should last, and last, and last.  Obviously, only use a top-brand synthetic oil. I never replaced the chain on my 2011 FD diesel after almost 300,000 miles. My 2015 diesel has done 119,000 miles and it's not crossed my mind to change it. Unless you can hear the chain rattling or slapping, I wouldn't worry about it.

I wonder if @T19ger is confusing timing chain with timing belt. The latter (i.e. timing belt) require preventative replacement at a certain mileage/km to avoid driver and wallet disappointment.
I have seen article about recent adoption by some manufacturers of wet timing belts instead of dry belts. Seems some wet ones may be  failing prematurely, due to mechanical wear and being subjected to chemical effects of oil.
A timing chain, not a timing belt, is something I look for in an engine spec, for more peace of mind.
