Title: ESP and EPS lights both on - i30, 2010 1.6 CRDi
Post by: HiUnDai on April 03, 2025, 10:32:18
123000 miles on the clock.  Owned 5½ years.

2 days ago I noticed both my Electronic Stability Control (ESP OFF) light and Electronic Power Steering (EPS) light had come on.

A neighbour used an OBD scan device but no codes registered, so nothing to clear.

The lights are still on.  Not had any work done to it for over 8 months (clutch cable changed).

10 months ago in its last MOT, there was one advisory:

"Steering rack has slight free play detected at steering wheel (2.3 (a) (i))"

The steering clicks a bit when turning to left or right.  At the moment, everything seems as normal, no difference in driving, no obvious steering issue.

Any suggestions please?  Thanks

Hi,
knock = flexible steering coupler 56315 2k000fff probably worn down to nothing.
esp off light is probably set because the eps light is on.
eps light is probably on because the coupler has worn down or the steering column has developed a fault.
Steering wheel and SAS codes are in the more advanced obd reader set (like dealer lever tech, not $20 readers)

Thanks so much.

I took the car to local garage a few days ago who did a diagnostic check on it.  The steering hadn't been re-calibrated which they did and that has knocked off the EPS light.

Electronic Stability Control (ESP OFF) light keeps returning so that part you referred to might help that.  I've found the original part  for £5 UK.

Will speak to garage about that when he returns from holiday

Thanks again
