Ive just had to rescue the wife, stranded in a carpark near home. The fuel gauge was just above the E, fuel light was off and the gauge said she still had about 100km left, but the car was difficult to start this morning and then wouldnt start after she stopped up the road. At first i thought maybe it was an issue with the immobiliser or perhaps fuel pump, but seeing it was lowish i put 10l of fuel in to see if that made any difference and it started up again like nothing was wrong. I then filled it up and took another 41l so i am starting to suspect the fuel gauge or maybe the sender is playing up.
Has anyone else had fuel gauge or sender issues with the FD hatch?

Never had that problem but thinking on the mechanics (assuming a sistern float lever is the sender's construction), there may be some sludge or other solids in the tank under the sender that won't allow it to lower completely, or the resistance at the sender has increased in the worst possible spot. Pick the easiest job first, whether it's looking at the sender or the guage, then eliminate from there.

Not too sure how to troubleshoot repairing the gauge, but i had wondered about crud in the tank causing issues. I really dont want to have to pull the sender out if i can help it, but i guess if this carries on i wont have a choice. Not sure if anyone else has any thoughts?

Was speaking with a mate on the weekend who had a Sante Fe of a similar vintage years ago that used to do the same thing, he thinks its a Hyundai thing?
