A couple weeks ago the windscreen wash completely stopped pumping, and I looked online and realised I may need to replace the pump.
Today I replaced the pump, and I have the front windscreen wash pumping well, yay!
A bit of a weird fault has developed now, the rear wiper will not turn on at all, and the rear wash will not activate. Nothing happens at all, pump doesn't activate, neither does the wiper.
Anyone have any idea what could cause this?
I have a suspicion that it's connected with the connector beneath the pump, though I have no idea what it is.

Is the new pump a direct match for the old one? Did it have all of the same connection restored when installed? I have never had to deal with mine but that's what I would check first. Reseat the connections and check all fuses in case the rear motor has its own.

The new motor was grim GSF, listed as compatible and all connections were reconnected.
Noticed another weird change - the electric windows now work for some time after the key is removed and the radio can be turned on. Definitely a weird electrical issue.

Hi, is this pump design the same two wire design of the FD model which reverses the direction of the impellor and redirects the water flow through a different outlet? With the strange new operation of the bcm module with the windows, I would disconnect the battery for 30 minutes ( to reset the BCM) and also get the battery tested to see if it is coming to the end of its life.

My 2014 GD allowed me 20-30 seconds to play with the windows or until a front door was opened. My current Ioniq does that also. Not the radio though.

Hi, I am not sure whether this the pump that you were referring to, but there are two outlets - one for the back and one for the front sprays.
Thanks for the suggestion to disconnect the battery - I’ll see if that helps. Will it cause any issues to leave the car disconnected from the battery?
What I am thinking may have happened is that the connector beneath the pump got wet when the pump was removed and the screen wash drained out. Any ideas on how I would find out what the connector below the pump does?

Perhaps mine has always been like that! I guess given the issue with the rear washer I have been a bit more on the look out for weird electrical behaviour. Windows disable when the door is opened on mine too I have realised.

I thought the washer pump just has two connections. It spins one way for windscreen and the other way for rear screen. The polarity is simply reversed. If it works one way it suggests the pump and wiring are OK. Does the rear wiper work independently of the washer?

Unfortunately not. I can't get the wiper to work if I use the rear washer activation or the usual wiper activation. Any thoughts?

My car has a level sensor in the fluid reservoir, I'm guessing that's the other electrical connector. It should give a warning on the instrument display when it's empty. If the wiper isn't working at all, there could be a relay that's failed, or a fuse, or the wiper motor itself. Unfortunately I've never seen a wiring diagram so it's hard to diagnose

Having taken it to the garage they are telling me that a fuse was blown, which stopped the rear screen wash and rear wiper. Replacing the fuse gets the wiper working again but if you try the rear screen wash it blows the fuse again.
Not really sure if it's something worth fixing, anyone know how much something like this could cost?

I'd be tempted to not spend anything but some time to investigate, by dismantling or checking any damaged wiring causing a short.

if you try the rear screen wash it blows the fuse again.
Assuming the pump does not blow the fuse when washing the front screen, I wonder if the pump is experiencing overload, causing fuse to blow, due to a blockage to rear washer jet. Could that theory be tested by removing the pipe from the pump and see if pump then runs without blowing the fuse?

I'll have a proper look and try without the hose connected. I haven't tested changing the fuse yet, just passed along what the garage said.

As water spraying is not required as an MOT requirement on the rear I'd just disconnect and not use but leave wiper as active.

I had a problem with a 2011 i30 where the rear washer didn't work. There is an inline non-return in the hose to the tailgate, I just unscrewed the body of the valve, removed the spring and piston, screwed the valve body back together and it worked. In that car, the valve is located under the roof lining close to the tailgate hinge line.

I actually had this issue which I fixed right when I bought the car🤣
