Title: 2012 GD diesel update
Post by: Aussie Keith on October 14, 2025, 02:23:01
I've had this car since new and its now got almost 75k km. A while back it was making a racket under the hood which sounded dire but ended up being the clutch on the alternator. Who knew alternators had a clutch. The genuine part was stupid expensive, the dealer offered a third party part at a sensible price which sorted it. At about the same time it started running a bit rough and so I introduced a fuel additive. A little goes a long way and the engine now runs very well indeed. I'll continue to use this as its made a really noticeable improvement. Finally the rear hatch lock stopped working. I sources a third party part which looked identical but without the Hyundai part number stamped on at a third of the price of an original part. Took about 5 minutes to swap out.

Both front window motors have been replaced, one under warranty. I suspect they just weren't plugged in properly. The leather steering wheel looks terrible. Whatever it's actually covered in is coming apart. The paint is looking a bit sunburned and the lights are a bit hazy, it must be time for a proper detail.

Nothing further to report other than very glad I got the diesel engine all those years ago. It's still a really nice thing to drive.
