How can you tell when your car was built?
I have a sticky "plate" by the door latch, passenger side with letters and numbers on.
Is this the "build" plate?
If not where is it?
If so how can I interpret the info and find out when my i30 as built.

Hi Eye,
Fair bit about this on H-F including pix by Bob. The sticky label on Passenger side door jam of Aussie i30's has build date clearly marked on it (in my case Build Date : Feb 08 )we also have a compliance plate (silver alloy) riveted nearby with in my case 03/08 punched into it...
Cheers,
Dazz
Strange if you sticky label has no date on it!

Hi D_D,
Remember that picture and posted back saying I only had sticky plate.
The sticky does not have build date.
Nor do I have a compliance plate riveted and can't find it elsewhere, (must be OZ thing).
I remember from my previous Hy car - Accent - that the VIN number contained certain details such as engine type, date of manufacture, number of doors etc but I don't have the code for the i30.
Does anyone have info/code for i30 on how to interpret the VIN number?

Here's a VIN decoder i found:
http://www.autocheck.com/consumers/car- ... -decode.do (http://www.autocheck.com/consumers/car-facts/vin-numbers/free-vin-decode.do)
From what i've read, the only information that means anything to me is:
- The first 3 characters are the manufacturer - KMH = Hyundai Korea (2MH = Hyundai Canada)
- The 10th character is the Model Year - '8' = 2008
I have a sticker and a plate in the front passenger door jam. Sticker has the build date (10/07), and the plate has the compliance date (01/08 in my case)
Tim.

Thanks tk421,
Put my VIN number in but came back invalid VIN number. Can only presume that it doesn't like UK VIN numbers.
Anyway from what I can work out mine was Hyundai Korea, and model year 2008 (although bought Sept 2007).
Can any one provide code for:
Characters 5 to 8 - body style?
and
character 11 -assemby plant?

On that topic, maybe we can compare VIN number 5-8 digits and see how it relates to body type.
Mine are DC81 and supposedly (I haven't seen the car, I just have the paperwork so far) it is CW (station wagon).
