Want to take this off to refinish from chrome to black. How is this fastened? Anyone have a schematic of the front end (facia/lights/grille etc.) parts?
-
Yeah, a good question.
-
Deff something I want to do to mine, I've seen it a lot in the Korean car pic threads and will probably start looking into it very soon il post what I find here.

When you lift up the bonnet you will see an assortment of metal and plastic fixings along the top of the black plastic that forms part of the grill. Remove those, but there are two more screws located behind and at the base of the logo. So you will need a stumpy philips head screw driver for those two and maybe a torch to help guide you to the screw head. Easy to remove.
I have put some pics showing the rear of the standard grill:

Once you remove the grill you will see 6 screws holding the chrome. Even easier to remove.

:brilliant: Nice one Dennis :D

Thanks.
Removed grill this morning, took chrome off and put rest back. Working on refinishing chrome to black. Scuffed with 320 sandpaper, fine scuffpad and then cleaned well...l.ooked like brushed aluminium Used some self-etching primer on that. Wating overnight, will sand (800 wet) and see how it looks. If the primer seems durable enough, will reprime, and then topcoat in satin black.

Sounds like a plan could you post some pics of your finished result I would love to see how it turns out

I wonder if the mat black tape they use on the outer door frame will also work. If it can be laid up in piece it could look just as good. Just a thought because the tape is thick and durable.

Bumping this thread.
Ordered a M&S grill. Very useful thread.
Any special tools needed or just regular screw drivers?
-
First time I've seen this particular grille. Thanks for the bump! :goodjob:
-
Has anyone tried removing the grille off a GD Active? It seems that there is no access to the grille from the engine bay.
-
On my car there are screws/grommets along the top bar.
