Title: need help with shiftlock release - diagram?
Post by: snowcherry on December 10, 2010, 14:29:47
anyone know much about this? its the little 'button'? or whatever to call the darn thing above the gear stick [auto]. it releases mmmm something when the something sticks  ??? yeah ok my book is in the car and i'm half asleep and i can't think of the words

anyway.
i realised today the cover part was missing and now it's just a hole. it was fine but it was at the detailers and today was my first day out since getting it back on monday. so they must have pushed it in/down somehow. stuffed if i know how they did it without jamming something into it.
i popped into hyundai quickly and they said they could look at it on monday but it wouldn't be covered by warranty as its not wear and tear if it was actually broken. hopefully its just putting/clipping something back.

so the whole point to this is, does anyone know how this thing actually works, and can it be fixed at home?  any ideas how to unclip the gear cover area without damaging or scratching anything and then seeing if its actually broken or just pushed in?
i'm doubting there's a diagram for this in the handbook, but maybe there's one available online?

The only info I have is the image below. Looks like just a single screw to hold the knob on. May be you have to push that collar down to expose the screw.

well that is a big help in itself thank you!  :)

if i can at least take the cover off and see it, it might explain itself.
thanks again

I'd be complaining to the detailers snowcherry.
Sounds like someone couldn't get the car out of gear (probably didn't have their foot on the brake) and forced the thing.

^really?

they disconnected the battery to, which i'm not sure is normal. i had to reset the clock and audio settings.

So. You'll not be recommending them to your friends then?  :-\

so not normal?
i will be querying him about it i guess.
overly he did a great job, and a reasonable price. and there are extremely few detailers up here worth going to. this is the third mob i've looked at and huge improvement on the previous two. he also has a business next town up, so must be doing something right to be able to afford both of them running. i feel he could probably take this onboard and look after the car better next time. *cross fingers at least*

my father did manage to have a look at my car for me today, he says it works fine. from what he can tell just the cover has been snapped off and is missing. nothing has been jammed inside. which is a relief. i'll ask hyundai about getting a new cover if possible.

I was wondering how your getting on with this snow?

Id be pretty p***ed off if it were mine. Shame you cant prove it was the detailer. If any of the lads working under me made that mistake id be taking the cost of the part out of their wages !

Some lad had his keys in his back pocket and while he was talking to one of the panel beaters decided to park his backside on the wing of a brand new E63 AMG Saloon a £71,000 car. He left a nasty scratch and a good little dent in the panel. Guess who lost his christmas bonus.

Sounds mean but i don't stand for any crap in my bodyshops !

i couldn't find the piece on the floor, and i didn't get into town monday or tuesday to talk to hyundai.
am going in today though so will pop in and ask about the part.

i plan to pop into the detailers just to let them know. they may say it couldn't be them but whatever.  :-\

i'm actually pretty cranky today - i possibly could throw someone. i'd like to throw someone right now actually
but you know - whatever.

-----------

on a side note i didn't bother going to the detailers, was too rushed and annoyed to.
but did manage to pop into Hyundai. my lovely 'fix my rattles' guy  suggested i wait until my next service and mention then the cover is missing and get it looked at under the 'service' so i wouldn't have to pay for it.
