GOT PROBLEMS OR ISSUES? => DIESEL => Topic started by: smiler on December 30, 2010, 16:27:56

My I30 has done 50k and an engine management light came on.
The problem I'm told is the swirl motor.
what is this, does it break often and is it under warranty?
Many thanks

No one has ever mentioned one failing before, it should be covered under warranty, assuming it is with in age and mileage for your country.
you are probably going to have to wait a week+ for the motor to be ordered.
-
What is it? I assume its associated with the fuel intake.
-
Yep, that's a new one on this forum.
Welcome to the club smiler, albeit under unpleasant circumstances. Is that 50,000 miles or 50,000 Km? I see you're in the UK so I'm guessing miles.
A quick google shows that the air entering the manifold is shaped by the swirl port motor, for optimised efficiency. I would guess that part is covered by warranty.

I tried to google but just got hyundai sites and no technical info.
-
yea, documentation says it sits on the end of the inlet manifold and swirls the mixture.
Looks like an easy/quick part to replace, easy access. Comes as a small sub-assembly, not just the motor, Part number is 283202A400 on U and U2 1.6CRDi variants.
Shame it wont be something the dealer is likely to have in stock.

Can request next day delivery on parts.
Main distribution depot I believe is near Warrington.

i wonder if when this part breaks it only cracks, and stays intact.or it breaks and pieces get sucked into the engine. :scared: is it alloy, metal or plastic/bakelite material?
-
Don't think anything could get sucked in, it's looks robust, guess it's siezed.
-
i imagine its like those air swirling things you can buy on feebay that go in your air intake pipework.
-
More complicated! It's controlled by the ECU.
-
Welcome Smiler sounds like it should be a quick fix.. (touch wood)
..and you should fit in well around here as we are a pretty happy lot

Here is some more on the swirl control for future searchers who might need to deal with this fault out of warranty.
1. The (scan) error codes for this part are:
P2009, P2010, P2015, P2016.
2. The module has the motor and sensor built in to one FRU.
3. It only swirls the mixture above 2500rpm.
4. It's on the front left top of the engine, held on with 2 bolts
5. If you have a fault its probably wise to first check it's 5 pin connector (CUD40) is clean and connected properly.
6. Also check for dirt/foreign bodies
7. If it needs replacing a dealer is probably going to have to do it anyway, becuase after a new one is fitted a calibration routine is needed to be run in the Hyundai diag software (component change routine->swirl control valve change) to ensure efficient operation.
