I think crdi models have proven to be a massive draw card for the i30, and i can only praise it. who knows, i might be up for a diesel version of the i30 series II when it comes out (hope it comes in pink!).

Don't think so m8 as diesel is selling for $1.82.9 and unlead $1.52.9 most people don't know how to work out fuel economy and they just look at difference in price at the pump so i don't expect the CRDi to keep selling big #'s.
just a fact of life.

The diesel is a bit noisy when it is cold (particularly outside the car) but once its warmed up it's barely audible under normal acceleration. "Someone" I know got up to an indicated 160kph the other day while passing 2 x B-double (really long trucks) and it was still fairly quiet..
Haven't driven a 2.0 petrol i30 but would be surprised if the diesel is any noisier on the highway.

I only ever see a puff of smoke under heavy (ie 4000rpm) acceleration, I'll look in the rearview and see a very faint puff behind me

Snowman i don't rev to 4,000 m8 i mostly stay at 2,500 or less i let the TQ work for me the TQ falls off at 2,750 it's TQ that thruts you forward not HP

Yes Tim,
I have heard it on good authority that Hyundai is considering bringing the SR badge out in a 2.0 crdi. It is the same motor as the 2.0 crdi used in the KIA Sportage and the same motor soon to be available in the Deisel sonata. Should be a little ripper!

We meet again.. The couple of bits I've read on the 2.0 Crdi (from UK) is that it's not worth the extra $$$ over the 1.6 economy not as good and pushes the i30's dynamics a bit hard!

The black smoke is seen in diesel cars,but mostly in diesels which have been driven a lot with underrevving (changing gears before the turbo kicks in) that's why it is best to change at about 2500rpm. i never ,or at least try, change over 4000rpm
as far as fuel economy goes mine changes often, now is 6%, but usually i get 7.5% because the traffic in bucharest is hardcore, and it is getting colder. and on long rides ,believe it or not i got 3.2% * we calculate here in % for example 6 liters / 100km
if anyone says the i30 crdi is noisy, call a friend with a skoda,vw,audi,ford,opel,seat tdi tdci cdti and pull them next to the i30..

We have just returned from QLD where the average price we paid for ULP was $0.92.9 - Yet Diesel was still selling for $1.45.9 ... Doing the math, the diesel would need to average about 3xL100K just to be cost comparable on fuel... At the moment (at least last week in QLD) diesels were not only more expensive to buy, but also more expensive to run.
It's a quirky world at the moment!

Around here unleaded 87.9p/l, diesel 99.9p/l
