Title: door locking
Post by: paul on January 01, 2011, 14:20:09
Happy new year people.
Does anyone Else's doors lock automatically?
Yesterday i went to the car unlocked it via remote but never went inside as i was distracted,
after about 2 Min's the doors all locked automatically,
i read the manual about locks etc and cant find any info on this,
is it a fault or normal?

Normal, as long as no doors are opened.

i30's do it, and our peugeot 205 does it too.

My RAV4 also does it. It's a great security feature.

Standard on UK i30's. Should do it after 30 seconds I think. But not sure it re-sets the alarm as well. You would need to get someone to sit in the drivers seat. Lock the car via remote, let the alarm set, about 1 min, then unlock with the remote, wait for it to lock itself, then get the person in the drivers seat to pull the bonnet/hood lever. If the alarm has re-set then it will sound   :goodjob:

what if you have left the keys on the seat?
The other day i left the wife in the car and went to the shop and it locked with her in
she said her door wouldnt open.

You'd have to open the door to leave the keys inside, soon as you open a door or boot this feature turns off.

It works if you leave the wife in though

I guess you must have locked the car, realised she was still in it, then unlocked the car again and walked off without opening a door. 30 seconds later she's trapped. nice  :goodjob:

Seriously you should not do that (even to the wife  ). If the car got hit or something happened then the occupants could not get out in an emergency. They can always lock the car by leaning over to the drivers door controls, and then unlock their own door via their armrest button ( as the dead lock is not set without using the remote) which you set the other day by locking it with the remote. If that makes sense to all reading this

I'm sure I've read that if the car is hit by another vehicle/ large object the locking system automatically deactivates and you can then open the doors.

I don't think they will when there is no key in the ignition.
