Somehow, despite owning a Hyundai since Nov 2009, I've overlooked a pet hate I have had of Hyundais for some years.
Wonder how many others feel this way. Or can someone give me a good reason for why Hyundai use the wheel nuts to hold the wheel covers on?
Most manufacturers get away with perfectly satisfactory, press-on covers.
It is an annoying practice which adds mightily to the wheel alignment process as you have to jack the car up, remove the wheel nuts, take away the cover, replace the wheel nuts, let the car down, drive it onto the hoist, do the alignment and then repeat the process before you give the car back.
And no smart alec cracks from all you people with alloy wheels, thanks. :lol:

Looking at it purely from a practical point of view (forgetting the inconvenience to tyre professionals :winker:) it does avoid the problem with clip on ones falling off (nothing looks worse) :P

Sort of. But as the covers get older and more brittle, the impact of wheel nuts being done up on them tends to crack them, which can lead to loose whhel nuts.

I reckon its a good thing.....They're not so easy to pinch and also they aren't gonna fly off when you hit one of those huge holes in what we laughingly call roads.
As for the poor old wheel alignment guy...tough! They're getting paid to do it... :lol:

Well, no. They don't charge a premium to do it. I bloody would. :rolleyes:
But discussion of the merits/ value of good wheel alignment probably belong in another section.

:rolleyes: :rolleyes: Pah, wheel covers, IMHO probably the most overrated things on earth, they discolour, crack, fall off or get stolen (unless attached by the wheel nuts or cable ties) and TBH they don't even look that good, they have always screamed at me "I wish I had alloys!"

I reckon wheel covers look better than a plain steel wheel........And not all try to look like alloy or chrome wheels.
Downside, like we've already mentioned is they get stolen, fall off or just get gouged from rubbing up against a curb.

I reckon whether they are bolted or clipped on they just look crappy. What ever happened to metal hub caps? To me they were a better looking way to cover the wheel hubs but I guess the plastic thingies are cheaper.
I do wonder whether people buy mags just to avoid the ugly plastic junk? Particularly after they have curb scars or front near side missing. :lol:

On the reverse side of the discussion I get most amused when I see some guy has put A$2500 worth of wheels on a commodore that is probably only worth A$1800 .. I guess wheel covers don't have much street cred though :-[ :rofl:

I don't keep my cars long enough to need a wheel alignment :D.. Probably only had to get about 3 done in 35 years..
Never had a problem with uneven tyre wear...or wandering/pulling to the left or right except on those two or three occasions where I got it sorted with an alignment :goodjob:

With my old Barina, I never had problems with tyre wear until AFTER it had a wheel alignment!
Had another 2-3 after that and none were able to fix the cockeyed steering wheel that had resulted after the first alignment. I gave up after that.... :mad:
