So I have it finally - pics to come in a few days time when I get my camera back.
First impressions: everything as expected (I've had several rides before buying at my dealer). The only thing is that strange smell, like something was burning, it can be smelled outside of the car as well - I think it has something to do with new engine, and goes away after awhile?
And another one: those rear parking sensors are loud! Is there a way to calibrate loudness?

My car smells fine from the first day ... you'd better check it ?!

Congrats on getting your i30. Many days of happy and carefree motoring.
Most diesel i30's have been the 115 ps hatchback so to have the views of a 90 ps CW owner will add another dimension to the forum.
(Does the forum need to create a specific thread for the CW and one for the Hatchback?)
It would be interesting to have your views on the acceleration in each gear and minimum speed for each gear so the car doesn't labour.
As an example in mine , 115ps, I can't change into 4th until 30 mph (50 kph) and 5th until I'm at 40 mph (65 kph).
PS need to update your details from i30 cw soon NOW you have your i30, also include location.

Ok, updated profile as requested.

I need some time to get accustomed to the car, both city-cruising and on the roads to have some feeling about gearshifts. Just need a little bit of time&practice.

Nice one qualia. Thanks for the details. Your English language is very good.. I hope you enjoy your i30 as much as we all do our's

Great qualia, will be good to hear what economy is like, sounds like they might have less turbo boost, the scan gauge showed me the stock 85KW has about 14.6-14.8psi boost at idle then goes up, i set cruise control in 4th gear @ 1,900 rev up a hill on way home last night and the scan gauge showed how the little baby holds that low rev speed up hills so well, the boost went up to 22psi to put the squeeze right up. i found useing the throttle myself i could keep the boost down, so i'll remember that and see what my economy is this weekend as going on a 800+k trip
will be interseting to see what qualia's mileage is like compared to ours. Qualia what temps are you seeing there weather wise?
cheers

Right now, summer that it is, it is mostly at around ~28-29C, so climate control will certainly be well respected in my book.
As for the fuel consumption, I mostly drive in the city short distances (daily 15km), home-office-home, with occasional longer trips, so I don't expect miracles, but certainly I will let you know of results, when I have them.
What about the strange smell, am I the only to smell something funny I should be worried about?
-
qualia, i would take it back as something like plastic or rubber might be cooking on the exhaust or turbo, they have heat shields to stop this , still take it back to check.
here its winter and i have not driven mine in summer yet so don't know what it would smell ike when pipe is hot. only smell i ever smell is a sweet smell when i start it cold in morning and let it idle its the diesel fumes but does not smell like a diesel truck at all.
good luck and thanks in advance

Hi qualia,
Congrats on the arrival of the CW (I have a friend in Australia who is hoping they come to Australia soon) Hopefully that smell is just some soundproofing on the exhaust or something...
Looking forward to the pix.. what colour did you choose or did you already say?
-
Color: steel-gray - the only way to go
And seriously, it looks good, but I'm growing to think that any color would do.
As for the smell, today or tomorrow I'm going to pay a visit to a dealer to pick up the net for securing cargo in the luggage compartment - so I might as well ask about the smell.

Sorry Daz, misread posting.
When is CW due in Oz?

They are evaluating it at the moment... Don't really know why they have to do that
My guess is it will be launched over here as soon as another factory goes on line (either late this year or very early in 09)

Same here for a first few days. There were some traces of oil or paint or something on the engines outside. It was gone after it was heated on a working temperature for a few hours.
Don't worry, and enjoy!!
-
Thanks, I think the burning smell has toned down already.
Today, coming home from work for the first time in i30 I was subjected to a display of tank-like fuel consumption >80l/100km. I know it's a result of giant traffic jams in my city (due to extensive roadworks aiming to decrease traffic congestion) - 1km made in maybe 30mins... but still horrifying. In the evening I have brought it down to ~10l/100km and that is still way more that I'd like, but I guess only after tank is empty/nearly empty numbers will make more sense.

congrats and perfectly enjoy it ..

goody :)
also gonna order the cw ;)
the problem you told about from the engine is when the new engine warms up it tends to heat up the oil on the outside for preservation on the engine before the car is sold, and it is perfectly ok to burn it, so it sticks better and doesn't rust. had the same problem with my getz and after about 200kilometres the smell dissapeared.
