Title: K & N Air filters for CRDI
Post by: ElleB on February 04, 2011, 11:08:41
I have been looking into the use of these K & N  filters in place of the standard ones since reading up on some of the German "tuning chips', as some recommended that the change of air filter would be advantageous.
I made some inquiries with K & N overseas and received this reply.

We do not give the exact gains for a specific vehicle, since it is depending on several circumstances. Our intake systems are being developed on a dyno with a horse power gain between 5 and 10% as target. When we do not gain enough (or lose power), we will not bring the kit on the market. The Kia Cee’d we had in, gained slightly more than 6 bhp @ 5600 rpm. It might seem not much, but we measure the bhp’s on the wheels. That means the gains on the flywheel are bigger (transmission resistance).
We did test the kit on a 1.6 petrol version of the Cee’d.  For replacement filters we do not claim the 5 to 10 % horse power gain. In general we see a gain between 0 and 5 BHP for the replacement filters.
The gains for a chipped diesel car are even bigger in most cases. The reason is that the amount of diesel is higher. The K&N filter causes improvement of the fuel mixture, since the air flow increases. I advise you to first have the filter changed before you tune the car.

I checked out the 2 Australian importers and the CRDI filter ( Pt no.33-2380) is about A$115.

I then also had a price from the US supplier and have chased up post to Aust via a friend in the States.
I can get a 6 pack of these filters, landed for A$75 per filter, plus post to whatever Australian destination. So a saving of $40 or so.. :goodjob:

So, if anyone is interested in grabbing one of these filters, I will bring in a 6 pack, on a first come first served basis, let me know, with cash up front. Delivery time will be about 2 weeks from placement of order.

With the strength of the A$....now is the time!!!

 Cheers

I wonder how noisy it will be.

I used to have a K&N filter on a car when I was 18 and the induction noise was pretty high.

Me too. On a couple of 40DCOE Sidedraught Webbers.
GREAT sound though.

Thanks Guys for the comments...Just to be sure I have sent of a request to my K & N contact in Europe asking for an answer to the question raised. He was the one that supplied the info I quoted in my initial post.
I am thinking that there may be a change in the induction noise for the petrol version, but would be surprised if it was as significant in the CRDI.

I will post the answers ASAP.

I have a K&N in my diesel. To my ears it is as quiet as the OE filter was.

Remember K&N do 2 things:

1. a Panel filter to replacer inside the airbox of most vehicles. These are NOT designed to generate more power (and often make you LOSE some), they're dsigned for MUCH better filtration. and they do this EXCEEDINGLY well.

2. a 'Filter Kit' which usually comes with a mount and some piping, like a cone\exposed\pod filter. These are their range that generate performance, simply because (lets make up some numbers for ease of explaination), a pod filter is 150% the performance of a stock airbox, and the stronger filtering robs 25% of that better flow.

So you're still left with extreme filtering and 125% air filter flow.

The guys to watch and harass are Amsoil, they make a Nanofiber EA filter, i'm emailing them now to see what they sell, their search is pointless >< for a HUGE company like amsoil i'm unimpressed with their IT guys, lol.

$75 is good considering Hyspairs has a standard filter for $30.

Would there be some form of receipt so I can claim the cost back on my lease?

Anyone use one? Has their economy improved?

Would you have to reset the car's computer to recalibrate it?

I have been using one of these k&n replacement panel filters with a tuning box for a while and I don't think that I noticed any substantial difference, but my economy has always been good 4.0-4.7L/100km max. The way I looked at it was that in the long run it is a lot cheaper to use one of these replacement panel filter kits as long as you maintain and clean them at the required intervals as Hyundai tend to rip us off with the simple paper filters. Also, as Paolo5 said, it is just as quiet as the stock OE filter.

As you'll see, these filters are washable and reusable so, at the very least you'll save heaps on replacement filters over the life of your i30.

:goodjob: I've K&N filters in all my cars the last 10 yrs, wife has one in her i30, for the last 2 yrs, main advantage is you can wash them, i do hers every 5000, due to the i30 having a otr {over the radiator air intake}, if not washed often you will notice more fuel usauge, they are not noisy & cant say i've noticed any perfromance gain. Mine cost me $100.

This seems a pretty important point. the filter I used to own years ago required you to throw the air box away and install a (very large) cone filter.

K&N’s replacement air filters are designed to increase horsepower and acceleration while providing excellent filtration. We make over 1,200 different replacement air filters for virtually every vehicle on the road. These filters are washable and reusable and are custom designed to fit into your existing factory air box. Their drop-in design means adding performance is simple. With most vehicles you simply remove the disposable air filter and replace it with a K&N.

Guys,Just want to correct something that Rustynuts mentioned. I guess he got the info from the K & N website (see link http://www.knfilters.com/search/applications.aspx?Prod=33-2380 (http://www.knfilters.com/search/applications.aspx?Prod=33-2380)), BUT   as mentioned below, K & N have qualified it with me as initially I also thought the same.

My information from K&N in Europe is that the "drop in filter is only for the CRDI diesel engine.
The petrol one has another part number and is as described by others, it is a cone shaped item.

See this comment from my contact.

"Thank you for your interest in K&N products.
Unfortunately the 57-0683 does not fit your i30 1.6 diesel. It only fits the petrol versions. Only option we have for the i30 1.6 diesel is the replacement filter." (33-2380 )

Personally I think the wash ability, thus cost saving, and airflow are the prime factors, especially for those tinkering with various "chips" and tuning boxes" as stated by the chip supplier that I was in contacting.

Check this link for more K & N testing detail

As I said earlier, I will post their reply once received.

Your contact has said the cone filter (57-0683) won't fit the diesel engine, he hasn't said the "replacement" (33-2380) filter won't fit both diesel & petrol.... :winker:

Anyhow, I guess someone on here with a petrol i30 will soon tell us if the filter is indeed cone shaped.

Can I throw a spanner in the works.

When I read the warranty T&C's it states genuine HY parts have to used otherwise it will invalidate the warranty.

So are K & N approved by HY as genuine HY parts?

I don't know about Hyundai but K&N have this to say:

"When you buy an OE replacement K&N High-Flow Air Filter or High-Flow Air Intake System you can be confident your vehicle’s warranty will remain in effect.  If you experience a difficult dealership, K&N will resolve the issue so you won’t have to.

The following summarizes the K&N Consumer Protection Pledge (http://www.knfilters.com/MAF/massairpledge.htm):

K&N pledges to our customers that they will not be taken advantage of and charged for a repair due to a dealership warranty denial blamed on the presence of a K&N product"

And here is K&N's Product Warranty

To void the warranty they would have to prove that the non genuine part was to blame for any problems.

Which would more than likley have the parts supplier battling in your corner.

They can't just say you fitted a Ryco air filter so were not fixing your busted auto....

It would appear that the fitting of these filters is a relatively cheap "non invasive" way to get an increase in performance.

Yeah, but they're doing a nice little trick, they're measuring filter materials only. So a layer of their filter vs a layer of factory. Yeah, they'll win.

however in reality, they often (not always the case, i cant speak for certain for hyundais, I used to be a Honda boy) have thicker plastic supports around the edge, thicker layers of filter material than was used in the test, and often the test is done without the mesh\flyscreen that keeps its shape.

For a specific example, the Honda Jazz air filter has a slit cut out of the plastic edging on the filter. The K&N one does NOT. with a propper airflow diagram for the airbox (people on fitfreak.net go too far sometimes, lol) its noticed that a lot of the flow is blocked by the wide rim on the K&N, which explains the power loss they all mesured. Its not an uncommon occurance.

I'm not shitting on K&N. only saying use them for their OTHER merits, not power.

You want the best? Harass Amsoil with me to make a filter for us, nanofibre for the win.

K&N don't seem to think much of the i30 anyway: Hyundai put the I30 on the showroom floor as a cheaper alternative to its better equipped European rivals. The I30 is equipped with only one standard airbag and no ABS brakes.

Well since I started this discussion, I have been following the comments and great work done by others in adding "bits" of info here and there, that is the great benefit of this forum... :goodjob:

I have been back in contact with my European K & N guy and overnight received the following comment.

"K&N tests the products as they are sold to customers. We do not cheat with different filter material or any other changes.

You will always have skeptics everywhere; a well-known myth is also that we would measure with the hood open. I can look you straight in the eyes and confirm that we are an honest manufacturer. We do have cancelled several kits, since we did not gain any horse power with it.

The K&N filter is not identical to the original one. We use different rubber for example. This explains why some dimensions are slightly different (the height of the edge for example). "

Additionally he directed me to this link that has such a wealth of information that I suggest that you make a coffee or crack a tinny and  read and digest the contents.

http://www.knfilters.com/facts.htm (http://www.knfilters.com/facts.htm)

Just to address a couple of issues raised in the last few days,.....I have cut and pasted a couple of excerpts from the mass of info that this link provided.

"Independent Laboratory Test Results
In order to verify our filters maintain filtration levels necessary to protect your engine, we test our filtering media through independent laboratories. The testing procedure used in the past was the SAE J726 air filter test procedure established by the Society of Automotive Engineers, however this procedure was recently superseded by testing procedure ISO 5011."

"New Filter Media
On occasion we see “new” air filter media’s developed and sold under the premise they provide increased levels of dirt filtration.  More often than not, as opposed to quoting specific efficiency numbers, this “increased protection” is described as increased dirt retention capacity, meaning the filter can hold more dirt before requiring replacement.  Remember, K&N air filters have always provided a service life in excess of disposable filters and then only require cleaning and oiling for re-use."

" Vehicle Warranty
Contrary to what you may have heard or read, in the USA, a K&N Filtercharger will not void your vehicle warranty. The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, passed in 1975, prohibits a manufacturer from conditioning its warranty of a consumer product upon the consumer using any article or service (other than one provided without charge under the warranty) which is identified by brand, trade or corporate name, unless expressly authorized by the Federal Trade Commission. If the manufacturer does not provide air filters free of charge, they cannot void the vehicle's warranty simply because you have installed an after market air filter."

There is a heap of interesting "stuff" in that link, so set a bit of time aside.

Maybe I will need my mate to get more than a 6 pack !!!

Cheers

But is does say "in the USA"

There is no way I'd using anything other than a genuine mobis oil filter, it's just not worth the hassle for such a small saving. The terms of the UK warrant say :

It is a restraint of trade to prohibit the use of non genuine parts on a vehicle, so they can say that all they want, but it wont hold up in court.

Further to void the warranty they need to prove that the non genuine part
was responsible for the fault.

Probably goes back 15 years or so here, but it's the wording of the guidelines re servicing which also are interpreted to include the use of replacement parts "of a comparable quality" (my wording). And I think that means the onus is on the vehicle manufacturer to prove otherwise in cases of dispute.
Lakes can probably give us a better interpretation.

Dont go with panel K&N. There is noting to be gained, absolutely nothing.

Go wit K&N CAI!! OMFG gains!
I have one and got "only" 4HP, but, torque diagram is fantastic!! Engine can breathe! I had wheel spin like crazy in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear from torque burst at ~2200rpm.  Now it pulls from 1800rpm and wheel spinning is a lot less since torque is developed gradually and lasts till 4000 then slight dropping (before sudden drop at 3600rpm). General times, like quarter mile, 0-60 etc are significantly better. Pulling from 100-160kph is just WOW.
+ there is that intake sound and blow off aaaaa amazing :brilliant: :i30:

PS
Take look at https://i30ownersclub.com/forum/index.php?topic=5534.0 (https://i30ownersclub.com/forum/index.php?topic=5534.0) , he gained like 9-11HP.
So its a definitively must have for CRDI.

EDIT: ofc diesel cant have blow off, but its like that :) (in absance of better words)

Despite my nay-saying, i'll be buying a panel filter anyway simply to save money on replacements (wash, dry and go, with K&N).

As i said, on their 'drop in filters' the gains are usually un-noticible. So any better breathing i'll take as a bonus, I'm purchasing PURELY for the washable filter and better filtration.

Still gonna try and get some amsoil nanofibre ones, but they dont seem to make em for newer cars very quickly.

I've been able to dyno test with and without K&N filter and I can say there is no performance benefit to be gained. In fact if you removed the filter all together you still won't see a difference. The answer lies in the ECU that peggs back any gains back to factory parameters as soon as possible. Sometimes I see spikes in power and torque back that is short lived when the ECU kicks in. K&N claim performance gains. In i30s case that's bolony on a standard car setup.

To me I don't care either way. At the moment I'm using the OEM filter because it still does a good job in filtration. My tuning box beast still kicks arse. 1st and 2nd wheelspin? Not a problem.

i would be bloody careful with them...

people tend to 'over oil' them and stuff their AFM up... the oil contaminates the wire in there and causes the engine to think its lean, thus putting more fuel in...

Sorry it has been some little time, been busy,  but I have this reply from K & N re the latest discussion.

These comments should "clear the air"

This was a direct answer to Master_Sythes contribution.

First we have to clarify about which product we are talking; we do not dyno test each REPLACEMENT filter. Therefore we do not claim any specific gains for those replacement filters. In general we see gains between 0 and 5 bhp. Our intake systems are developed on a dyno with gaining horse power as target. A kit which we list for a specific vehicle, will gain power on that vehicle.

An intake system will gain more power when the intake air is colder. Unfortunately we do not have a CAI system available specifically for the i30. It might be possible to mount a universal Apollo system, but it will be your own responsibility that it will fit and it is mounted properly. We cannot take responsibility for that. The Apollo; http://www.knfilters.com/universal/apollo.htm. (http://www.knfilters.com/universal/apollo.htm.) You will need enough space under the hood and you might need adaptor parts (85-6001/85-6002/85-6003) to be able to mount the Apollo to the car. The outer diameter of the Apollo is 170mm and the total height is approximately 180mm.

I then summarised it this way:

"Thanks for that clarification, to be clear on the difference is most important.

So basically you are testing your filter material over that of the OE filter for any specific vehicle, but with a aim of a gain in bhp of 0-5 in a test bench situation.  So all the other factors that influence performance, be it temperature, be it ECU etc will modify those potential results, unless it is a specific Kit  produced for a specific vehicle.

That seems to put things in perspective and perhaps means that we need to "re-jig" our thinking to; 1. better filtration, 2. washable filter, so less costs in the long run, and 3. there is the possibility of a BHP gain, that will be controlled by other factors outside the characteristics of the filter itself.  Is that a fair summary to close the discussion?"

The reply was :
Yes, that is definitely a fair conclusion. Although the BHP result in case of replacement elements not the aim is, but the result.

So I hope this helps....The bulk buy offer is still open, but the e Bay option works out about the same....it all comes down to postage.

Cheers

 Elle B

Personally i don't see how a filter can "breathe better" and filter better as well. To breathe better the medium needs to be more open/coarser and to filter better the medium needs to be more closed/finer.

K&N may spruike all they like but at the end of the day they are selling a product and will promote it in any way to sell more. We used to use them on race bikes in the 90s but went with oiled foam filters for the same power and better filtration..

I also agree that there is no way filter can let more air pass and have better filtration. Plus, theres that "thing" about MAF sensor going dead from oil.

My thoughts, you put high-flow air filter in front bumper to protect it from and significant dust/garbage particles, and those little that pass through are reduced to nothing in turbine or even if they pass to chamber they are melted away. Some say oil can have that dust particles and then act like polishing agent to parts which is bad, but regular oil replacement will correct that too. Then again, ofc you in Australia will have slightly more to think about with desert sand going on then me in dry city.

MAF senor issue. Well, for example, MAF sensor die all the time on Accent (X3 model i think), and all of them have factory filters! Then again, MAF sensor is not constructed to last for eternity, and lets say you get at 50.000km CAI with ofc oiled filter, and at the 70.000km your MAF is dead. You blame CAI, thats very much open for debate, since yes it can be oil, but it can be simply that MAF is dead since it always die like from 70.000-90.000km.

You have people saying "dont do that oil kills FOR SURE". I ask them, did you washed your filter and let it dry for 24hours??? Did you then oiled it CORRECTLY by which i mean atleast minimal required amount of oil and not just soaked it in to be sure??? Then did you let it dry for another 24hours??? Total=48hours of work for this filter, i am ready to bet 99% of them did not do that!! And what you get from filter soaked in oil when you floor it? -ofc a lot of extra oil all over the place including MAF. I believe K&N even tho they'll sell their mothers for high profit when they say do it right and no problem!

Replacing stock filter with K&N panel filter will do exactly nothing. You still have reduced flow from silencers and like 1000 curves in intake.
CAI will improve something for sure!
But having CAI without engine tuning is waste of time and money-in that case i believe it wont do a thing/just like the exhaust.
Tune engine with either chip or tuning box for 20% which is highly recommended percentage THEN go with CAI.
Then there is no doubt about gains...some gain few HP, some few extra mileage at highway, some better response, and some (like me) gain insanely good torque diagram. Most of you have seen our HBT dude work, also he has done like 50 other hyundais and every single one gained something from CAI (i repeat, first is a engine tuning since ECU factory delivered blocks all)

Any CRDi must have atleast tuning+cai+exhaust...and thats not for racing, thats just for having truly great working, high mileage, epic drive diesel.

You did well with your English Xamaxy. As a Croatian myself I find your English writing is better than my Croatian writing. Any way I back your point of view. My own mechanic, who is very reputable in the high performance scene, said to me the KN filters wont filter as much as the standard filters, but they will allow a greater airflow. So those who have no tuning to their engines will not benefit in performance or filtration.

It's amazing that anyone would use K&N filters in rallies such as the Paris to Dakar Rally & the Australian Safari if they didn't filter as well as an original....

Me thinks it's an urban myth put out by the manufacturers.....
Title: Re: K & N Air filters for CRDI

i would be bloody careful with them...

people tend to 'over oil' them and stuff their AFM up... the oil contaminates the wire in there and causes the engine to think its lean, thus putting more fuel in...

I agree Ian!
i had too much oil in a KnN pod type, had motor on a dyno, washed the filter out never oiled it & saw a HP gain also a Torque gain, was a worthwhile gain too. but this was for racing.
i won't be putting one on my i30, but they are a good filter just not the best filter.
i would worry about useing oil in the filter on the Diesel too, so will just stick to stock Hy as have done 86,000k and happy. why change.
just a note, if you get induction sucking noise, this means you have a restriction as the air flow starts from outside the filter, you want the air flow to be inside the filter, thats why airboxs help as nice uninterupted flow of air.

All this talk about a CAI for a crdi i30 is killing me! Have a look at the top of your radiator. Its called an OTRAI { Over The Radiator Cold Intake}, it's factory fitted, a pod filter setup sucking in hot engine bay, will never perform as well as the OTRCAI.
And I have K&N filter fitted, cleaned every 5000km, re oiled & no problem with MAF. This filter is economical in the long run, not having to ever buy another filter. Also its not noisy & doe's not make your car any faster.

my car is actually a 2.0 petrol with a k&n pod filter,my cold air intake is in front of the radiator/behind the grill. my scangauge intake manifold temp reading is telling me that by putting the filter were it is, its now only half the intake temperature that it was with the over the radiator intake.  :goodjob: I've seen so many cars with a pod filter clamped strait onto the throttle body and sucking in hot air its not funny.  :sweating:  great info bloodnut.  :goodjob:

bang on correct lakes, its also a hot air intake.  :sweating: but with the cone style k&n filter you don't have much choice where you put it. its either in the engine bay sucking in 60-70c air, or in front of the grill were its cooler.

to improve it you could try to extend it more, hard for me to say how as can not see it on your car, just mean if you it's possible to extend the cone say two inches longer, this would give you more air space between throtle body and the filter, this can help performance sometimes. also as the stock air pick up is not really insulated i would expect the traveling through it would be warmer than outside temp. also spacing your hood up by putting spacers between hinges and bonnert would get under bonnet temps down.

Check this parameters by importance, isnt just that enough to expect some gains?

Factory:                 You/aftermarket:
1.Price                          1.Performance
2.Noise                         2.Noise
3.Performance               3.Price

@bloodnut
Very valid points!
Regretfully i dont have deeper knowledge and understanding behind performance parts vs factory parts influence to reply you...tho i'll ask my dude to see what is his answer on 1) australian 45 degrees  and 2) OTRCAI.

Question for you, and others:

In your opinion, why did cold air intake changed my torque curve in such a way that it has eliminated sudden burst of ~370Nm, and keeps torque high all the way until 4000rpm? So better development of torque at 2000rpm, and keeps it faaaar longer with slight droping, resulting in a evidently better acceleration?

I think only because factory intake was severely limiting! All that noise reduction and many curves and ultra mega godlike filtration etc

Mate, i am honestly happy for you that you achieve that performance gain, with what ever setup you have, i am not claiming to be an expert on cold air induction. I'm an old boy nowadys, built 2 drag cars i ran at Willowbank QLD.The last 3 cars i,ve had i have changed the air intake from factory to gulping in exterior air from outside the engine bay. VZ ss, bt50 & my wifes i30 i am more than happy with the results, you do whatever you think suits you & your conditions. My wife gets without fail 1050km to every tank city driving in her i30. Played with many cars over the years, still no expert, always learning, good luck guys.
Cheers Bloodnut {opps almost forgot, have a look a most drag cars they have either a bonnet scoop or a cold air induction system.} :D

@Lakes
Nooooo m8, lol that would be insane

Take a peek at "my" topic  https://i30ownersclub.com/forum/index.php?topic=5143.0 (https://i30ownersclub.com/forum/index.php?topic=5143.0)

I have 2.0 CRDi, which has 304Nm stock + chip = 375Nm

I say: CAI gave me better torque DIAGRAM!, so car has better development of this 375Nm and it holds it for longer which results in obvious faster acceleration from 100-150kph in 5th for example.
*** Better development = before CAI i press pedal all-the-way down -> car chokes -> then "explodes" from torque and wheels skid/roll (whats teh expression?) in first 3 gears
***Now -> pedal down -> instant acceleration, no skid in third gear, still some more in 2nd + torque holds till 4000rpm where maximum HP kick in, before was only till ~3500rpm

If you saw andrejs topic, CAI released 9HP in his 1.6 CRDi 115hp, ofc after chip tuning, before is useless.

the video with the i30 with the exhaust what has been don to it

You need to ask owner on youtube what he has done to it.
I think he has some type of muffler to produce that exhaust sound since diesel "doesn't have" exhaust sound by default.

I fitted turbo-back exhaust last week and its practically stock sound, only when idle there's a little more diesel roar.

I thought i would point out, i don't think the K&N Filter would work out any cheaper that reaplacing the stock elliment with new stock one regularly like i do. as on top of the cost of buying one, you have to buy the special cleaning kit & thats not cheap. the oil part of the kit lasts a lot longer than the detergent part. i found in the past i was going through a lot more detergent. also you have to allow the filter to dry after washing it and you can't use heater as could damage them. i find it easier to replace stock with a new stock.

thats true Matty, but if you over oil the K&N filter it will not flow any better, a lot of people run them dry as they flow more air dry than oiled, but they do not filter as well as stock if they are dry. the best way to get improved air flow is to increase the volume of air in the chamber between air filter & air intake or increase the size of the filter eliment itself.

K&N filters are available on fleabay for $60-$70....so, the way I see it, 2 genuine filters would cost you at least that much, so I reckon it would have to be cheaper in the long run, especially when you consider the extended mileage between cleaning compared to the genuine paper filter.
I see the recommended amount of oil for an i30 diesel filter is just 21ml,  so a bottle would just about last the lifetime of your vehicle unless it's operated in dusty conditions.
Recharge Kit's were on special recently for $15 so you're up for maybe 2 or 3 dollars to clean & re oil your filter....  :undecided:

Rusty i've used K&N Filters a long time, the oil lasts but you also need the special detergent or risk damaging the filter , it's the deterget that you use most of & do you know how long it take filter to dry out after washing before you can put back into service? also i don't shop on e bay and never will as i'm cash only over counter buyer and always will be. how much is service kit? K&N don't last forever. a lot of guys i know don't use them now they use some other brand made in Italy thats super expecive supposed to flow better and last longer. but i'm now a dry eliment filter man. but go with what you like.

As for the service kit, I did mentioned that they had been available for $15 (from Autobarn).

Looking HERE (http://www.knfilters.com/clningacc.htm) I see you can buy the detergent separately and in a range of different size bottles.

K&N Filters have a  million mile warranty (http://www.knfilters.com/warranty.htm) so K&N must think they are going to last...

I have no idea how long they take to dry but if that's an issue, just keep your old paper filter and use that until the K&N is dry.....

Cheers  :)

No Worries Rusty, $15 is ok, last time i priced the kit was $35 at K Mart.
i've never had a problem with K&N, just young guys i sometimes race against that have Haybusha's showed me damaged K&N & said they prefer some Italian make that to me looks about same as K&N & is made from cotton too, but costs about double the price, i forget what the name is.

Probably either BMC or Simota, but I believe it's the former.

Fitted a K&N panel air filter a few weeks back and so far quite happy with it.
I haven't really noticed any difference with it other than perhaps the engine pulls better at slightly lower revs....that could be my imagination though...lol.

Regardless, I'm happy to use it knowing that I'm never likely to have to purchase another air filter for my i30.

That alone makes it worth buying.  :goodjob:

This is the company I bought mine from and I'm happy to recommend:

Less than $70 Aus (delivered) in total is pretty good....

I have my K&N for over 40K Km... no problems to report!
No other different than the stock in all ways (noise, performance, etC).
