Title: MP3/PMP player + stock headunit
Post by: Waja on March 07, 2011, 05:11:11
I tried to do a quick search and I didn't seem to find anything on this but I was considering purchasing a separate PMP [portable media player] like a Cowon J3 or Archos 43 since my ipod recently died and I was wondering if you can plug in an alternate media device to the USB socket [note not aux] and 1. as to whether it will read the media files off the device and 2. will it charge the player?

Hope someone can help me with this as I don't want to resort to another apple media device..Thanks!

I think most of us use USB sticks. They work fine.

As Trevor says you cant go wrong with a USB stick (probably get 16GB which is a lot of music.. for under A$50 now) :goodjob:

With drop and drag convenience.. I hate itunes

yeah, i had previously been using a usb before the ipod but I was wondering out of curiosity sake as well as to whether anyone has tried this with a separate media player and as to whether it charges off the usb socket and can read the root directories. guess i'll just resort back to a usb again =)

Maybe you can try an alternative if a friend has a Philips/Samsung or Iriver or something... Don't think you could do any harm.. just don't start the car with it connected if it is something borrowed (Just in case you get a surge)
