Welcome Tullybanana

Can you drive both the auto and manual?

If so, it would be interesting if you could do a comparision of the two.

No. Only one at a time.

Sorry Tully. Welcome aboard. Do we assume your location from your username?
If so, hope things are getting better for you.

Hi there all, i thought I'd set up email notifications of responses to my posts, obviously not coz i didn't know i had replies and thought nobody liked me.... :blubber: Thanks for your replies!
Just an update.... I recently purchased a "Steinbauer" power module direct from Austria through a friend (cheaper than buying in Oz) but only received it today and have yet to install it, i should soon have 102kw & 306nm cpmpared to factory (Oz spec) 85kw & 255nm. http://www.steinbauer.cc/neu/index.php?car_engine=19129 (http://www.steinbauer.cc/neu/index.php?car_engine=19129)
I'll post an update when I've installed it to tell you what i think (if anyone's interested).  :winker:
Bye for now.

A rather belated welcome good sir (=
Love the user name,
two crdi's sounds great, and ask asked previous, a comparison of both would be excellent,
Which one do you prefer driving yourself??

Over and out :)

Well the auto is my partner's car and the manual is mine so i drive the manual mostly which I'd prefer.
The downside to the manual is a fairly ordinary feeling gearshift which is disappointing.
The biggest downside to the auto is fuel economy, around town the manual does about 1.5 L/100kms better than the auto, there's only about 1 L/100kms difference highway driving.
The upside is that i haven't really got anything else to gripe about, i think the cars are generally fantastic!

Your gearbox will improve over time (by 10,000 kms I would expect)

I suspect the gearbox isn't actually the problem, it's the linkage / cables from the gearbox to the gearstick, my car has clicked over 40K now with no signs of improvement  :undecided:

Sounds like something needs adjusting (most improve in the first 6 months or so)

The gearbox in the wife's MY11 CW is sensational (probably the nicest (gear)box I have experienced  :whistler:)

Okay, not sure what's going on there, the shift feel in i30's is renowned for having a poor feel and from my experience i agree. I recently drove a 2005 Corolla Sportivo 6 speed manual and the shift feel would be one of the best I've ever felt in a FWD car. I'd still prefer my i30 though, the good outweighs the bad i reckon!  :D

Actually, i just thought of something, has your wife's car got a 6 speed or 5 speed box? Mine is a 5 speed, maybe the 6 speed is nicer, i can't comment on the 6 speed because i haven't driven one. When my car was built (Nov 2008) the 6 speed wasn't out yet (in Aust anyway).  :blubber:

Interseting that. I test drove a 6 speed Coroola before I bought the i30 and didn't particularly like the shift. I agree the i30 can be "notchy" sometimes but I generally find if I concentrate on my timing a bit, it's as smooth as.
So I think its biggest problem is it is a bit unforgiving.

We had a 5 speed CRDi from March 08 until August 2010 and I loved it but the gearchange was notchy in the 1st 3 gears but improved considerably after it had a good workout in the first 5 to 10,000kms.. (Traded it with 68,500 on it I think)

We traded our 2nd Car (a 2007 Nissan  Tiida Sedan) on a MY11 2.0 Ltr CW 5 speed in Jan 2011 and from the showroom the gearbox was exceptionally smooth in all gears. So they have obviously re-worked something between 2008 and 2011... :winker:

I guess people's opinion of gearshift's vary somewhat, but the Corolla i drove was a Sportivo so it may have had a shorter and slightly different shift to a standard Corolla, they are substantially more powerful than a stocky so probably a different gearbox too. It sounds like the later model may have had some improvements although you are talking about a petrol not a Diesel, maybe different?

I think it is pretty much accross the board and I'm sure the feedback on the changes in the 6 speed manual are very positive too  :goodjob:

Hi

I have a 2008 crdi with 147.000 km on the clock. The gearshift is notchy and noisy in 1. and 2. gear. From the shift mechanism inside the car, not from the gearbox.

The gearshift is actually more nice and smooth in my 1993 Nissan Primera with 327.000 km on the clock.

The gearshift, and the roadnoise, is my main dislikes on the i30.  :(

Besides that, I love the i30, and I really enjoy driving it.
