Title: I was starting to think......
Post by: Lakes on September 01, 2008, 11:56:37
Hi All, well with all this bush driving i have been doing on weekends, i was starting to think about better light's. but the sun comes up earlier in the morning and stays up latter at night, a sure sign summer is coming up fast and daylight saving, so the sun will be up till after 8pm soon, don't think i'll need good lights after all.
and don't think Dazz will need lights at all  soon ;)
cheers

I'm in NSW.
The sun starts to set around 5:15pm on the South Coast at the moment.

The last 2 days have been brilliant.
Hows the weather down in Canberra Eyma?

I'm coming down in a couple of weeks for an interview/assessment.
Better not be too cold

Hi Camerooney,

The mornings are still cold but the days are starting to warm up for sure.
Problem here is that you can still get late froats right up to late October, so you dont want to get carried away and get the tomatoes in the ground to soon. Sigh

Hey Dazz, just ment when i was in Tassie in summer a few time's the sun seemed to come up earlier and seemed to take till 9pm to 9.30pm to get dark, but never got as dark as it gets here. i liked it.

Hey Cameroony, i'll be down near Narooma in a few weeks to visit friends. the light's on the i30 are ok, but could be better, when you look at them you think you will have good light's, but it's like a babe with those one of those bra's on  that make tit's look larger. looks  impressive till you use them ;) . but i think if i ajusted them up a bit they would be a bit better they seem focused a bit low to me, just have not got around to getting a very long skinny phillip's head screwdriver ( this is what you need to adjust the light's )

Dazz i think Emya just has fat fingures and your useing an American dictionary m8.
cheers

Thanks Lakes.
Ahwell I'll see how they go.

I don't do a lot of night driving, but they'll probably be better than the Laser's headlights.
Either way I'll be happy.

Are the lights not too crash hot on the i30?
How is the high beam?

Mine are more than perfect now.  :D

Hi Thumper,

You pulled some of the HIDs out didn't you...?

Could you post a link to your light upgrade for Camerooney please or just remind us what you have in there now...thanks... :?

Regards,

Dazz

Sure.

Fog lights (3000k Golden Yellow 35w 881 bulb)

To date, I haven't received one flash from oncoming drivers. (4200k looks factory stock for a HiD system) the colour is a pure white with a hint of purple. (No blue or any other stupid colours) Only time it shows a different colour is when they first power up for 5-10 seconds.

Since the fog light bulbs have a Yellow coating on them, and the HiD bulb starts off blue when it's cold, the output colour turns an interesting blue/green for several seconds.  (Low beam starts of blue/purple when cold)

Thanks and itt is informative! - Any suggestions on the best place to buy the globes from? - The standard lights are a bit tame and I was considering installing spot lights, but this could be a better way to go....

donc,

You can go the Thumper way or you can do what I have done and fit better quality halogen globes.  I've fitted Osram Nightbreakers and I can really notice the difference - took me about 20 minutes (max) to change.

Bob could you get to the globes with lights still mounted to the car? also do you adjust the lights focus? or did the new globes allow you to see more of the road as they were adjusted from factory? mine just seem adjusted too low.

Lakes,

I had to remove the healight unit (easy once you know how - 2 x phillips head scres and 1 x hex head bolt) and then it is a breeze.

No, I didn't fiddle with the adjustment.  High-beam is much brighter, penetrates further and gives better brightness on the fringes, which helps with country driving.  Low beam is definitely brighter and I gusee you could adjust upwards although I've not found it necessary to do this.

Thanks Bob - Any comparisons on the Osram Nightbreakers -v- HiD bulbs? Which is the better option? Not too worried about the cost, a good set of spotties plus mounting hardware would cost around $600

donc,

I thought about HIDs but considered them a major hassle to fit and wire plus the possible legal issue with HIDs in Australia.  I know Thumper has had his looked at and approved, but I am not convinced they are legal in an i30 because of the lack of both self levelling headlights and washers/wipers.

I can't compare the halogen upgrade with HIDs, but can say the Nightbreakers are an improvement on the standard halogens.

Wouln't mind seeing some photos of spots fitted to an i30 and how it is done.  Would consider doing this if they looked the part.  Who's going to be the first.
