We have a 2010 2lt petrol hatch and have found that if the car is locked using the remote, anybody within the car is unable to unlock the doors and get out. Anybody else any clues on this?

I think that's the way it's supposed to work. It could be potentially dangerous to be able to "trap" someone in the car be locking it remotely.

I agree that it would be dangerous to "lock" someone in the car(especially on a very hot day), but short of carrying a hammer under the seat to smash your way out, there must be another way of getting out.

How have you tried unlocking? I can think of 3 ways to unlock:
1. Use the central door lock/unlock switch located on the driver's door.
2. Use the mechanical switch that is positioned just above the inside door handle of each door.
3. Rear hatch door has an "emergency" latch located behind a removable panel.

Why would you be using the remote to lock the car when it is occupied anyway? The only safe method of having occupants "locked" in the car is via the active locking and/or child locks.

The reason I would want to lock the car when it's occupied is because my wife has mobility problems at present and if I need to nip into a shop while in town I could lock the car to give some degree of security.I could do this in my last car because it could still be opened from inside.

I suggest you try the methods you outlined to open the car.perhaps you could let us know how you get on because they don't work on my I30.

I've never actually tried this and the car is a long way away in our cold downstairs garage at 9.45PM (But I have heard of it before)
I assume the doors deadlock when locked with the remote so that if someone smashes a window to break in they still cant get the doors open .. But still a worry for a situation like yours.. :confused:

It's exactly the same if locked with the key. My wife keeps the spare remote in her purse now just in case.

Sit in the car and lock the doors.
You will find that the door lever will not unlock as the mortice locks come into effect.

Thanks for the clarification Zeke, an interesting question you pose. Now I have not tried this, but do you have the active locking enabled?? I know that in my ix20 the active locks stay on all the doors until you remove the key from the ignition or press the unlock button on the dash. I know that Kim can exit the car but cannot enter the rear door to get Eilidh out until I do either of the above. What I don't know is if a door opened from inside with HALO on can then be opened from outside again or if the active locking means it can only be opened from inside. I will test tomorrow for you in mine, I assume the active locking works the same way across the entire Hyundai range........

Pay atention, please!
This function is not equal on all i30! This function depends on of the Version!
On mine, I can lock with FOB and unlock any door from inside!
Please, first of all, read the User's Manual and (this is the most important thing!) make a test!
My Users's Manual was crossed by me (except on a few doubts!) on the functions that don't apply to my CW!
After that, if in doubt, I will ask here, or dealer, or anyone!

My read on this is that eofferyed is asking why "anybody within the car is unable to unlock the doors and get out"
My reply was stating that the door has a mortice system, no one else has actually said this save Dazzler who hinted at the deadlock, and was, therefore, giving the reason as to why the door could not be opened from the inside!!!!!!!!!

I've noticed the same thing....
I occasionally have my elderly mother in my car and she'll often sit in the car while I do shopping etc.
A couple of times I've hit the lock button as I'm walking away, forgetting that someone is in the car and when I've come back my mother has been quite distraught as she has been unable to open her door.

Sorry, you're right about the central door locking switch on the driver's door. That doesn't work after using the remote lock.
However, the mechanical lock latch above each door handle will unlock the door, as does the hidden latch inside the rear hatch. Though both of these methods will trigger the car alarm.
I guess it may be a question of which model you have?
Mine is the base model. It has an alarm, but doesn't have HALO or the engine immobilizer.

The mechanical locks above the door handles don't work in my SLX after locking with the key fob..... :confused:
As for the hidden latch on the rear hatch, I suspect that won't be much good to my ol' mum who is 80...Come to think of it, I suspect it wouldn't be much help to me either.... :p

OK checked the active locking this morning and if the passenger opens the door from inside with the HALO enabled then they can open the door again from outside, despite being unable to open any other door from outside.
The ix20 manual states not to lock the car with occupants using the fob unless the occupants also have a fob to unlock the deadlock system. This is in one of the yellow background warning boxes, I guess then that there are no alternatives.................

same with my CW ... i locked my car with all the windows open & tried unlocking each door by pressing the unlock button on the driver's control panel & the unlock switch on each door to no avail. didn't bother trying the hidden latch inside the rear hatch as too difficult if you have boxes & stuff at the back :sweating: the alarm wasn't triggered by any of these actions as well. has anyone contacted any of the Hyundai dealers to query this?

I don't see the point in contacting Hyundai to query it, can somebody check the i30 manual and see if it says the same as the ix20 manual?? If it does then there is nothing to query, they have told you about it, it is up to you as the end user to ensure that you are using the product in a way which is in keeping with the advice.............

Hi this a problem that I've encountered twice in the past, locking the doors remotely without thinking about my poor passengers while spending an hour in the supermarket. Learned my lesson on this potential hazard (we have 2 child seats in the back which would make it almost possible to get out through the boot).

Hi I have found that if you exit the car and then operate the central locking switch the car will lock without operating the deadlocks when you close the door.The car can then be opened from the inside but it will activate the alarm.however it does prevent anyone being trapped in the car in an emergency.Just make sure you have your keys in your pocket if you try this!!.
