Title: Windows Tint - What brand for the hot ozzie summer
Post by: bdennis on September 08, 2008, 05:49:30
OK, now that the i30 is almost here..
It is time to talk Window Tint..

What did you get?
What did you pay?
Who arranged install? Pre delivery or Post delivery?

The dealer is trying to flog Ming tint for $450 or the Anti Cancer Council Sunsmart one for $650. (Both garenteed for life)
The local Tint-a-car has the middle of the range Ashcool for $345 (Garenteed for 10 years)

Am thinking the Tint-a-car stuff should be fine.

Your thoughts?

(All pricces and brands are fin Australia)

My dealer tossed-in window tinting on the SLX as part of the deal - not sure what grade it is though... is there any easy way to check?

Hi Guys,

Some info about pricing and brand in this previous thread ... Dealers seem to add about 50% markup over the going rate...

viewtopic.php?f=6&t=648&hilit=tinting (https://i30ownersclub.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=648&hilit=tinting)

Don't think there is an easy test for the grade (apart for asking an expert for his visual opinion...)

What did you get?
The tint i got was Onyx, supposedly their best darkest legal tint:

Quote
Onyx is a high performance film that contains metals for high heat rejection.

    * High performance metallized film
    * Shatter-resistant film deters “smash-and-grab” theft
    * Improves comfort due to maximum heat and glare reduction
    * Reduces fading of vehicle’s interior
    * Improves personal safety by blocking 99% of UV rays

What did you pay?

$280 and could have gotten it for $250 if my sis was able to take her car for tinting at the same time....

Who arranged install? Pre delivery or Post delivery?

Installed at Solartint ( http://www.solartint.com.au if you are interested in checking it up) post delivery.

I thought it would be darker cos i wanted a real dark solid black tint...but it wasnt all too dark in the end...people say its more of a grey/smokey...but while driving around,there was a noticable difference in the amount of light and heat that was passing through (esp of this totally random hot day today in syd)

also, im pretty sure there is a 'window tint meter' that measures the amount of light that is transmitted through the window...dont think you would really find one of those cept with the cops or something...

Same here Donc, I got my tint as part of the deal on my SR along with floor mats.

When we bought our Pulsar a few years back we were given the tint information along with the user manual, but with the i30 I haven't been able to find any info.

The tint itself though is probably a medium tint. It's definitely not the darkest I've seen.

I've never bothered about having additional tint in UK - No sun this year to talk about. If it does, it only lasts a day or so.

Need cash to buy fuel!!!
