Title: Accim's videos
Post by: accim on July 03, 2011, 19:42:36
Okay, so here's one short video, quality really sucks. I wanted to film it in better quality, but then the file is too huge. But, for a first video, it will have to do. The next ones will be in better quality, prettier locations, roads..

Time: nice Sunday morning, the traffic was really minimum.
Location: the capital of Slovenia, town Ljubljana and around.

clip0090 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iQVlsCJMaOM#)

In 20 minutes, I've been filming these are some "funny things" that happened. But there were many other "funny situations", but didn't film it.

1: Time 0:06 (people just "jump in", all the time)
2: Time 0:33 (no signal)
3: Time 0:36 (which lane?)
4: Time 0:46 (red light)
5: Time 0:58 (yellow)
6: Time 1:08 (red - and the guy doesn't even slow down or accelerate..just keeps on driving. He didn't even see it)
7: Time 1:20 (yellow)
8: Time 1:30 (bikers)

Ok, just few examples. Nothing special and happens probably in most countries. But the funny thing is, that all of those things happened in max 20 min period of time.. And in next 20 min 10 or 20 more things like that, etc.. And I must admit, that the traffic was really great and that during the week, at around 7-9 am or 3-6 pm, it's 10 times worse.

Great video clip accim - always good seeing "first hand" trips on foreign roads :D

Well done.

Next job is to get Hypercam 2 registered :P

Great clip for a first attempt you should be proud of yourself, accim. :goodjob: :goodjob:

It looks like there are idiots on the road everywhere, not just where I live in Australia. Those two motorcyclists at the end of your video must have a death wish. :scared: :scared:

I didn't think they did anything particularly bad, just normal lanesplitting, really...they also used indicators and didn't take off before the lights turned green... :whistler:

Looks very open and green.

I take it on the roundabout, cars on the roundabout have the right of way.
If there was a bump, like you had bumped the car that joined who would be to blame ?
You or the driver that joined?

Re red lights?
Do you have traffic camera's to catch light jumpers?

Well, the climate here in Slovenia makes it a very green country, indeed. The capital Ljubljana has quite a few trees and you can even hear birds singing in the morning. :)
Anyway, the cars already in the roundabout have the right of way. Those who join in must pay attention (have 'lower priority').
Regarding the speed cameras - there are a few in Ljubljana that catch light jumpers. Since July 1st, we have much higher penalties in Slovenia and such light jumping activity can be really costly :) Unfortunately, there are not enough policemen on the roads in Slovenia... And to aid the national budget, the government stopped hirring new ones...  :-\

I disagree, rustynutz. My comments are based on Queensland road rules

1. Lane splitting is illegal. A motorcycle is like any other vehicle, it must wait behind the vehicle in front at traffic lights.
2. Crossing a solid lane diving line is illegal.
3. Turning right from a lane clearly marked with an arrow as a left turn only lane is illegal.
4. The first motorcyclist stopped forward of the stop line. This is also illegal.

Do you think the fact they used indicators and didn't take off before the lights changed makes all the above illegal manoeuvres OK?

If the car to the left of the motorcyclists decided to turn right and took them out, who would you blame? I couldn't see the lane marking under the car, but if it was also a left turn only lane, then the two motorcyclists would have been mown down. The word that comes to mind is "D*&kheads"

I didn't actually say they didn't do anything illegal, UM.... :winker:

But, just to clarify things, there is no such law in Queensland (or anywhere else in Australia) specifically stating lane splitting is illegal, but, feel free to post the relevant road rule if you think it's there, I'm pretty confident you won't find it though.....  :p

Anyhow, it appears that the lane was a left turn lane as just before the video finishes, the car following the motorcycles looked like it was beginning to turn left as well, but I'm sure "accim" can tell us for sure..... :D

Post by: accim on July 05, 2011, 14:24:31
Yaay. I have a new video. It's being uploaded on the YouTube as we speak :D

I had some things to do in town Koper. That is a town on the Slovenian see. It's also quite important for Slovenian economy, because it's a port for ships (name: Port of Koper (http://www.luka-kp.si/eng/)) and a lot of cargo comes/goes there.

http://maps.google.si/maps?hl=sl&rlz=1G1GGLQ_SLSI363&q=koper&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hq=&hnear=0x477b5d2b02db9545:0x400f81c823ff350,Koper&gl=si&ei=LQwTTrSRL8r1sgazwoGODw&sa=X&oi=geocode_result&ct=image&resnum=1&ved=0CC4Q8gEwAA (http://maps.google.si/maps?hl=sl&rlz=1G1GGLQ_SLSI363&q=koper&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hq=&hnear=0x477b5d2b02db9545:0x400f81c823ff350,Koper&gl=si&ei=LQwTTrSRL8r1sgazwoGODw&sa=X&oi=geocode_result&ct=image&resnum=1&ved=0CC4Q8gEwAA)

Okay, so back to the video. It's quite long (more than 1 hour). I filmed driving through town Koper and then driving from Koper to Ljubljana (capital of Slo) (http://www.viamichelin.co.uk/web/ItiWGPerformPage?strStartCity=koper&strDestCity=ljubljana) (click the 1st one - Capodistria Koper)

The quality is relatively bad, but better then the one above. Why I filmed in such a bad quality? Because even in this small format, it's over 200MB  I have to figure something out. If I had set the phone (cam) to high quality, it would be at least 5 GB  :faint: I have a camera too at home. I'll try using the cam, maybe the file won't be that big and the quality will be decent.

Oh and yes. Check the 58 min 40 sec  :-\

Here's the vid:

Yeah, I forgot. 1 hour long movie. Can't upload it on YouTube..

I'll split it in few parts. What's the limit for YouTube AND which program should I use for splitting? :S Thanks..

Normal limit is 15 minutes (I have been approved for longer  :D .. but not sure what is my upper limit )

I have a couple of commercial editing programs (not sure what is the best freeware editor I will google and edit this post with a link)  :winker:

Try these links ...You will need to find oone that works with your operating system (virtual dub used to be pretty good...)

Yeah the truck. They sometimes park there although they obviously shouldn't. There are few production companies 2-3 km from that location and sometimes they can't find a parking spot there, so they park here. Otherwise, the building on the right (it's also filmed at the end of the movie) is a shopping center, called Qlandia.

The videos were taken at approx 9:15 pm.

That was great Accim, you live in a real nice place.  I noticed the young lady in the yellow top about half way through and expected you to slow down for a better look ....

Also Accim, Kranj is such a familiar name and I can't remember why.  It's not a recent memory I know that but Kranj is definitly in my memory banks for some reason, I do hope it's not something unpleasant as it looks such a nice place.

And with regards the light evening, we're staying light till bout ten in the evening just now so I guess you're on a similar line of latitude as us in England?

Thanks

PS
what sort of camera set up are you using?

Hm, Kranj familiar? Maybe because of some sports, maybe because of airport (Brnik -> it's few kilometers drive from Kranj).. Don't know.. I just hope you weren't mugged or something like that :D

What a lovely drive to go and get Pizza  :D

You seem to drive quite quicky for a relatively narrow road... :sweating:

Your pedestrians seem quite brave walking on the sides of those narrow roads with no separate walkway  :scared:

ASA... that is called curb crawling  :winker:

I would be very nervous driving on that side of the road as a tourist .. going around the roundabouts the wrong way and stuff.. :-\

IN one of the clips I did I noticed how fast it looked on the screen whilst in reality I was well within the legal speed limits and had I gone slower I would have had folks honking their horns at me for going slow.    Must depend on the camera I am guessing, I am not a whizz at cameras BUT this wont stop me from having strong opinions     so here goes, I think it's a forshortening effect which gives the impression of speed         :happydance: :happydance: :happydance: :happydance:

Hahaha

I wasn't driving fast  The camera makes it look, like I'm driving much faster, than I actually am..  :-\  I wasn't going slow, but not that much over speed limit, as it looks.
So I would go with asathorny statement ;)

Curb crawling :D Haha, I had to look it up.. Did you mean it like this:

curb crawling

The practice of trying to pick up a prostitute in a red-light district, by driving slowly along the curb, and checking out the action.
Hey, Luigi, you wanna go curb crawling tonight?

asathorny: Yes, we are in the EU, so you're welcome to buy a house here ;) But the prices are (for our standard) too high. Some average house on some of those locations (which aren't that special, there are much more expensive locations) costs around 200.000-300.000 EUR, at least. But than again, can't compare England and Slovenia, so the price is probably quite reasonable for you. I know a lot of people, that earn around 600 EUR/month. But some normal wage is around 1.000 EUR. Of course, you can rent an apartment, but the rents are also very high. A friend of mine is renting an apartment (approx 50m2) and pays 400 EUR/month + of course all costs and the other friend pays 600 EUR/month (around 45m2), but he's living in Ljubljana (capital). So half of the salary goes for rent, the other half for costs, food.. :)

Interesting word phrase. CURB CRAWLING. Haha  :happydance:
But you know what's the funny thing? There actually are some ladies (night club) in one of the buildings in that video!

You can try to guess, which building it is :) And NO! It was not the building I was going from.

Oh and yes, I forgot to comment about people walking on the road. They do that all the time. That's good, sometimes there's a couple and they wont move.. Or bicycles. Sometimes you have to drive behind them for looong time, but. What can you do. That's how the roads are on some locations. I personally, wouldn't walk there, especially in the evening or at night (which also often happens).

P.S.: I really went to pick up a pizza, my girlfriend was sitting next to me :whistler:

Ok here's one of my random videos. Made it the other day.

Location: Village where I live :)  At approx 3:00 I'm passing a primary school, which I used to visit long time ago (1-4th grade). In this school there are only 1., 2., 3., and 4th grade. 5th, 6th and so on, are about 5 km away. At least that's how it used to be. Now, there are only 1st and 2nd grade I think.

The school was built in 1896. So it's 115 years old now. The church, that can't be seen well in the video (but you can see it at 2:40-2:55 and I'm passing it around 3:15. Hill at around 3:20 is parking for the church), was built before 1586.

Here's the vid:

Loved it (apart from that rattle...) Don't think we would have any sealed roads that narrow in Tasmania (certainly none with blind corners like that...)

Lovely drive and attractive buildings but no way I would go that fast on the wrong side of the road.. :sweating: :faint:

Thanks. Well, the good thing on this road is, that there is no wrong/right side, because it's too narrow. Especially when driving with Santa Fe or similar cars.

One of my first "interesting" driving experiences (second or third day I had my drivings license) I had was on this road. But I was driving the other way around..so back. It was 15th January, around -5°C outside, midnight or passed midnight and it was raining. So you can imagine how the road was.. It took me 1 hour to do the same trip as I did in this video  :-\ I still remember it. I was going downhill and had in 1st gear and kept on skidding. I really don't want to repeat that anytime soon.

The rattle. It's the phone's "holder" that's making it. I'll try to fix it today, it really is annoying.

loved the drive,  like Daz said I wouldn't drive that fast on such a narrow road, very pretty driving though the trees.  :goodjob:  thanks for sharing.

Went to Ljubljana the other day (I've probably mentioned, that it is a capital of Slovenia). It was rather funny trip - highway. Look at the woman in silver Renault Clio in front of me (starting at 2:10). And the car that was bugging her that much (that was in front of her) was also driven by a woman :)

Was she driving at the max K's?

No messing when she saw you coming up behind her...

Re Toll - is it pre paid and charge taken from a sensor in your window or does it record details and send a bill?

As you where going into the tunnel where do the 2 lanes on the right go?

Am, no she wasn't driving at max speed, maybe when I was passing her. Otherwise no :)

Toll - we have "vignette" (sticker for highway, I think it's called like that) and it costs 95 EUR for 1 year. Before, we used to stop at those little houses and pay toll, or you could use ABC system - no stopping, you had little white box which was detected and which opens the gates, if you have enough cash on it. In few years they say we'll have satellite toll and we'll pay per km driven on highway.. Something like that.

The 2 lanes on the right. If you go there, you go to the center of the town Ljubljana or at least one way to go to the center :)

Thanks accim could easily be parts of Tassie (except for the traffic) our roads seldom that busy except in Hobart and Launceston... :goodjob:

Just did a google .. didn't realise Slovenia was so small  :scared: (one third the size of Tasmania with 4 x the population .. no wonder your roads are busier) :whistler:

Yeah Slovenia is really small :) You can get in 2 hours to every part of Slovenia from Ljubljana (capital).. Heck, it takes you 2 hours to get from the farthest point on North-East to farthest on South-West (Ok I'm exaggerating but not that much.. According to ViaMichelin planner, it takes you 2 hours and 52 min to get from Koper to Murska Sobota (286 km), driving according to regulations. So 2,5h basically ). With car of course.

I live about where the cross is and it takes me approx 25 min to get to Ljubljana, 1 hour and 15 min to get to Koper (the sea), 1 hour and 20 min to get to Maribor, about 35 min to get to Kranjska Gora
