Hi all. well after driving my new car 15k home, i'm very happy :)
as most should know i have owned a MAY08 Build date SX CRDi manual. i have always been more than happy with this car & as i have said in posts & probably too myself . Betsy just seems to perform better with age. i can remember 3 years back & gear box was on stiff side , well now it's smooth, & motor had little quirks of it's own but mostly only ever in the lower gears, once in 5th gear Betsey was perfect. I think Shambles & Eye30 you to be able to describe it much better than i could. it did not bother me gave Betsy personality :). i still love Betsy very much, she took myself & also friends into some remote contry with Temps you could possibly die in. & she never once let me down, she never once got a flat Tyre. she took me into three Australian states& back.
i know you all imagine this new 6 speed CRDi is just a extra gear behind a motor that perform the same, so hard for some to imagine how this will help.
but i can tell you this is far from the case.
first thing i done was lift up the hood to look at the motor, it is definatly a different set up, apart from a smaller engine cover. the first thing that stands out is the turbo, i don't think i ever looked at my turbo from the top in Betsy. but in the new car the Turbo is mounted higher and closer to exhast ports, but i did not spend a lot of time looking. i will compaire the two at a later date. the gear box was or is very smooth and easy to shift, but the thing i noticed as soon as i hit the road from the dealer car park, is this Baby wants to go!! she has more low down Torque & she is Very Very Smooth & responcive & is a joy to drive in traffic. the window sticker is as others posted. will get more k's then post again.

Constipated, when you lift the hood, first thing you notice is it seems to have more room at back of motor between firewall. but that turbo is definately higher mounted. but i don't know that much about turbo's, a good point from this that i spoted was the vacume hose, that hooks up to the primary variable pitch blades that help give us more low end grunt. looks to be much shorter, much easier to get at. but i never had one problem with that at all, so i would not expect makes a difference. But i have saw Common Rail diesel Turbo comercials that, somehow had that vacume hose get a hole in it. boy i'm telling you you sure know about that fast! the motor feels like it's got no Torque at low rev at all, when that rubber vacume hose leaks. as it stops the variable geometry turbo blades from varying there pitch.
also this morning before leaving for work, i lifted the hood to look for the sticker that says no DPF fitted, it was there staring me in the face all that time.
ANOTHER THING IS THE MOTOR HAS SO MUCH TORQUE DOWN LOW & the six speed as different gear ratios, so the revs don't really drop that much in 6th from what the old 5 was, but i think they are better matched, thats why its hardly ever fussed. also something a 5 speed CRDi driver notices is that the motor does not speed up a lot specialy in 3rd, it's happy to potter along with no throtle while its in gear. but as only have 70k can't really say the diff, i just notice these things.

Hi Dogga, was sorry to read about your unfortunate incident. just it all turned out ok & you & the family walked away. so thats the main thing
i think you will love your new i30 SLX CRDi, Hyundai seem to have managed to make a really good thing even better. i would say they are the car maker on the move up. while i waited in showroom i look at the new Elantra, very nice. i also looked at the top of the line i45 that had a glass roof, that car would have to be joe the gadget man's deam car!!! all beautiful.
i have been thinking about a new car & i wanted to keep with a Diesel , i looked at VW but they did not have a manual in the normal line up & the only manual at that time was the GTD 6 speed had a 6 month wait , so i looked at the Mazda 3 2.2 diesel 6 speed got a test drive. but the motor did not impress me at all, i was expecting more performance, but all i seemed to be doing was shifting gear, seemed to be a bit high geared. i thought to myself it might have just been that i was testing in the city or close and might feel better on open road. but i got into that new i30 CRDi with U2 motor & 6 speed and as soon as i hit the road i could feel an improvement, & the motor idles so smooth pulls so smoothly have driven in 6th @ 80KPH & it's not fussed at all pulls that gear @ that speed & it's happy, the speed i'm quoting is off my GPS did not check what speed on speedo. cheers

Well, i have 300k up so far, runing nicely.
I just had time to have a good look at the two motors with covers off both. appears only real change i can spot is injectors have a different part number but first part of the part # is same as my older 5 speed the last three or four #'s different. intake manifold & everything else look same but the exhast manifold is different on new motor, it mounts the turbo higher & closer to the air cleaner. the cover on new motor much faster to remove as only three mount points. motor has three male rubber fittings and cover has three female fittings. just easy push on pull off. the old cover about twice the size with two male female at rear two 10mm bolts at front.
i think after driving Crystal my new car, for a week, she has more Torque but about the same power as Betsy. i doubt would be much difference in all out performance, but Crystal is very smooth & nice to drive, the 6 speed does not appear to drop the rev's much over the 5 speed but it's still a nice adition & would show up in say driveing through the twisty's or over the mountains, but would not show up in straight line all out performance, as everytime you shift gear thats more waisted time off the power. but Crystal has a cleaner burning motor i can tell that now. i suppose you could get the 10KW more power with a different tune but would not be as clean. i have not as yet smelt a diesel smell from Crystal, Betsy has a sweet smell & at other times a diesel smell not bad but can smell it.
am i happy? you bet i am! :)
