Its fairly rare to stall an Auto however mine decided to recently.
After driving for about 10 minutes I turned into a steep street and applied generous throttle to get up the short hill. Upon mounting the crest at 30-40km/h there was stopped traffic. As i came to rest the motor stopped! I'm guessing it might have flooded it self.....it this possible? The engine restarted on the 2nd attempt and have had no issues since.

I reckon it was just a combination of circumstances...(nothing to worry about)

Slim chance of it flooding, or stalling at those speeds.
How much fuel did you have in the tank as you started the incline?

Diesels don't flood, as it's fuel that control's there speed, more fuel more rev's. with petrol air controls the engine speed.
these new auto's can be funny on hill's. the company toyota hi ace van is only new & it has stalled in Sydney on a very steap hill on lights, it will also roll back if i don't hold throtle or keep foot on brake. hard to say what has happened in your case. but main thing is it re started. also have to know what stall speed the Torque converter they have is, but i can't see that causing what happened to you.
