I've just rotated the tyres, without the spare.
I don't have a hydraulic jack or stands so it involves, taking one wheel off, temporarily replacing it with the spare, taking off the next wheel, replacing it with the new one, then going back and replacing the temporary spare with the new wheel.
So, it involves 6 uses of the std jack to rotate the 4 wheels.
These jacks are really built for emergency use.
Does anyone think this is going to cause a problem?  I'd hate the jack to fail on a dark night on the side of a country road.
I suppose this is going to happen every 20k too . . .

Do many cars have a better Jack..? they all seem fairly similar in the 26 cars I have owned :undecided:

Hi BC, i've used that type jack with a few different cars & utes & even the new Hi ace van i work with has one no problem if you use the correctly.
i've also got a fantastic lazy boy hydralic electric jack that plugs into fag lighter and has an up down switch it has a threaded piston so hight adjustable. i get it right under the front suspention hit the up switch and up she goes very easy quick love it. can stop it any hight then send it down

I have 2 jacks and lift the front and rear of one side first...and then change front to back and back to front...and then do the other side. The whole job takes me 30 minutes. Neither jack is the Hyundai one. A simple trolley jack from K-Mart etc. is really cheap. I do mine every 10,000km.

I use one of those cheapie trolley jacks from K-Mart (well, Super Cheap Autos actually) and if you put a small block of softwood timber between the lift points on the jack and on the car, you can jack it up high enough at the front that the rear wheel will also lift off.

Simple. Job done.

Agree with what you say.

Rather only pay for 2 not 4 at a time as I tend just to replace like for like.

As rear take very little wear it is great to have a new set on the front for grip etc when the weather turns bad.

Rotating is beneficial if you intend to replace all 4 at same time with say a different brand/pattern etc.

I know it is a shock to the pocket but I much prefer to replace all four at once .. I usually either put a cheaper set on if disposing of the car or put a better set on if keeping it..(gives you more flexibility)  :winker:
