When idling at a stop light I noticed that the tacho dips slightly if I press the electric door lock.  This occurs whether or not the doors are already locked.

Does this happen on your i30?

Not really a problem, just curious.

its the alternator loading up mate... nothing to worry about!!

it will do the same when you turn on the lights, or use any other high current device in the car!

Hi Tla
Here in Australia all the i30s (I believe) come standard with the 'HALO' system which stands for 'Hyundai Auto Locking Option", So our doors lock automatically as soon as you drive away unless you request your Hyundai dealer to override this option, but this is now standard across the Hyundai range here.

So I can't throw any light on your problem sorry  :).

Just noticed agentr31 reply  :) to your post, There you go problem solved.

Thanks for the insight.

I noticed that it doesn't dip when I lower or raise the windows, even if I raise/lower all the windows at the same time.  I'm a little surprised that the door locks require more power than the windows.

Try winding the window up switch while the windows are up and it will do the same.

Could it be something about the little motors demanding power but not using it?

On a manual i30 push the clutch in and out.

The RPM needle hardly moves but you can hear the engine change tone.
