Hey guys my car's a 1.6 petrol with 11000km on mileage, when it comes to small road bumps and speed bumps, i hear a lot of rattling and dribbling noises inside my steering wheel mechanism. If anyone had faced that same problem please reply. Cheers!!  ;)

Should that be HUMP - Sure you didn't run over a camel?

Seriously that doesn't sound right - take it straight to dealers for check up.

Good luck Mordi. They'll sort it for sure.

We drove from Sydney to Newcastle last weekend and I noticed a small rattle developing in the door near the mirrors. When we stopped I opened the doors and gave the moldings a bit of a push and it fixed it up.

My i30 developed this rattle and knock from the steering and when mentioned on the first service was told that a TSB had been released for the problem. Apparently its to do with the electric assist steering and involves replacing some parts with modified ones. Mine is being done today so will know if its cured over the next couple of days use.

That's interesting and informative Bodybag.

Are TSB's available for joe public?

When I had mine in for it's 1st service I mentioned that occasionally the steering felt odd, no rattle though.

They did a check and told OK.

But with this info I keep this in mind and if happens again and I'm near dealers I'll go direct to them so they can put it on the diagonstic before I turn engine off.

Cheers.

That's interesting Eye.. I read a review of the i30 somewhere where the reviewer put a minus as "the weird steering" - although I quite like it and it hasn't done anything wrong for me.

The Tiida has electric steering assist as well and although it does feel different than other steering assist systems it's light and direct (and seems to adjust nicely to your speed in both cars)

Had my car back from the dealers for almost 2 days now and my rattling /knocking and play has gone. Apparently its to do with the drive from the assist motor to the column wearing prematurely and requires a modified drive gear to be fitted. If you rock the steering quickly from side to side while stationary you can hear and feel if the play is present.

Sometimes when I drive along my driveway which is about 100m and quite rocky, I get a rattling sound and feel thru the wheel, almost like rack-rattle or a worn steering column linkage (although very slight).  After my 1000km service today, seems to have gone...

Hy all.

I have noticed the steering noise also and was solved by replacing a linkage in the assisted steering. Also, more and more i30 owners from Romania are complaining about this - probably due to bad road conditions. For some of them the linkage change was sufficient, some required also the change of the steering cassette (I do not know the exact word in English for that) - hope you understand me.

The best to all.

My steering wheel started grating and grinding, and the technician said that the steering rack needs replacing.

What is a TCB?  (I assume that the B stands for bulletin...)
