A Norwegian plane carrying 40 passengers turned around and returned to an airport hundreds of kilometres away -- despite having already started its descent -- just so the crew would not have to work overtime.

As a Manager I was always happy to bend the rules (slightly) to let common sense prevail (that is ludicrous)  :fum: :fum:

they could have landed and then refused to fly back instead.... I reckon all the passengers on board were up to the last man very angry with those operators sitting in a cockpit

Better an angry 40 passengers, rather than the 200 it would have disrupted if they had of landed as originally intended.

The rules will usually say it is the pilot's responsibility to ensure they don't break any rules, not the company, so it is up to the pilots to make the decisions.

But surely they would have known about running out of time prior to leaving and the flight cancelled/delayed while a new crew took over.
