I wonder if they use an Hyundai engine in that, and if so which engine family it is?

1.6 litre petrol - as follows, from the WRC website. This has applied for the last couple of years.

The machines are still based on four-cylinder turbocharged production models but the two-litre engines of old have been replaced by a 1.6-litre unit.

While they look similar to the ones you might see in your local car showroom, just about everything about them is different.

FIA rules say that WRC cars must be based on a standard road car bodyshell. For WRC use it is stripped to the bare metal and then completely rebuilt. All unnecessary brackets and mounting plates are removed to save weight and a tubular steel roll-cage is welded in. After around 700 hours of work, the shell emerges vastly stronger and stiffer than before. Most WRC cars could support the weight of 10 road cars.

The FIA requires all WRC engines to have a 34mm restrictor in the air intake, which holds down power output to around 300bhp. The cylinder block and head(s) must be based on those in the standard road car, but the crankshaft, con-rods, pistons, cylinder linings, valves and camshafts can be modified. Typical turbo boost is 4-5 bar - compared with up to 1 bar for an average road car - while anti-lag systems mean the turbocharger delivers maximum boost from tick-over. The result is massive torque - typically more than 600Nm - about the same as a Ferrari Enzo.

Ok, nice :)

1,6 Turbo must be the GDI turbo engine for the veloster then.

Great video but I really hate the sound of engines bouncing off the rev limiter...

Car looks nicely balanced over the jumps, tidy lines on th ecorners.
I'm not sure all those burbles were from bouncing off the rev limiter Rusty. Some of them were turbo over-run on a backed off throttle, I think.

Good find Brian. What an angry little car. Here's some more: http://www.gtspirit.com/2013/08/31/hyundai-i20-wrc-screams-in-the-forests-of-finland/
Going on what Surfer said, all WRC cars being based on the standard road cars,I want to know where I can get a AWD I20,this second film clip clearly shows this little anger bee is AWD,you don't get rooster tail gravel off an undriven wheel and in this clip in certain parts you can clearly see rooster tail of both  back and front wheels.

There's more to the rules and regulations Rick. They pretty much make AWD mandatory for this level of competition.
I only posted the bit which related to Indalman's query about the engine.

I found a bit more about the i20 program in a magazine. I'll post the details here when I get time to type them out.

Thanks Brian.
I just hope they get hold of the right drivers come 2014.

The guy doing the testing in Finland, Juho Haaninen has been on the WRC scene for some time, mainly driving the Grp A Lancer EVO, I think that he has long been tipped as a future star, but with only 2 works teams and a plethora of private teams with works input has simply not been able to pick up a drive for whatever reason.....

I guess that Danni Sordo is still on a sticky wicket at Citroen, despite winning in Germany and may become available over the next couple of months?

Thank's , Brian & Trev, 700 hours WOW would have a lot invested in it!
34mm restricter on intake  explains why they use the 1.6 over the 2.0.
I can't hear the sound of vid but thought for a while it was rear wheel drive, must have more drive rear wheels than front wheels? or is it the weight of motor gives front wheels more traction?
thanks again very interesting.
also about motor i'd expect it to be dry sumped among other things.
