what oil do you use?
i've always changed mine at 5,000k but do the 7,500k on this as lot of idleing in traffic. what if you take over a year to do 15,000k? would you use the time change or the k's traveled?

ps i know people send oil samples to have tested to see how well it's copeing to get an idea on how long before they need changing. but i've never done this personaly. i take all the oil i drain out to the recycler.

That sounds pretty good if they supplied the oil...

Looks like we might have another issue like the DPF or no DPF...

From a few posts on here it looks like several members have had their diesel filters changed at 20,000 miles or 30,000 km or 1 year...

Maybe that is correct and I haven't read the service manual properly..(at around $130 a pop that could expensive for us higher mileage owners)

Bob and others who have done well over 30,000km (or equivalent in miles) like to comment please..

P.S. Forgot to mention that when I got my oil filter the other day they wanted to know my rego number because after a certain production date they take a different filter...

I'm close to my 2nd service in just over a year. I'll soon know what replacements I need.

Just picked up my new SR & met the Service Manager. He talked about the 1000km "inspection" & made it very clear that it is an inspection, not a service, & that the oil is NOT changed. He recommended changing the oil at the 1st interim service (7500km) & then said most people then just do the 15000km service rather than the 7500's.

Dazz my service tech told me last time the filter will not need changing for a while, he is a diesel specialist too, i'll check the scedual but can't see how a year effects it, specially as i use that ChemTech diesel power, that helps condition fuel and ward off algea. i only go to servo's i know have a high turn over and fill lots of big trucks mostly BP but also use the expencive Caltex Vortex.
i'm not worried can't hurt even if you leave it too long, motor would just stop.
ps just my thoughts i'm not concerned myself but will go by the book as with everything.

I've always used fully synthetic oils from top brands.

First of all, under the warranty period the oil changes must meet the minimum requirements of the manufacturer. So it's one year regardless of the kms with i30. Secondly, I've never been in a situation where I have to change the oils based on time. Otherwise I probably would change after one year with 10000-15000 kms because the oils become oxidized regardless of the kms. Some car manufacturers allow a change interval of two years though. If the kms would be less than 10000 a year I would probably use some cheaper, semi-synthetic oils and change them once a year.

IMO idlying is not so bad for the oils, there is no high pressure or temperature wearing the oils then. Many of us have to idle the car a lot. I think that the cold-start cycles wear the oils the most as does continuous hard driving (near the limits of the engine). Still fully synthetic top oils can tolerate these conditions well.

Thanks Zombie, don't have a problem with oxidation right here but my friend that was living in Hobart said it was a problem down there.

I think you will now find that due to the slow sales a lot of dealers will recover some $ in service charges, just what i think.
oil filter is around $20 what is the air filter price? i would expect both diesel & petrol to use the same, but could be wrong, anyone priced one?
with the Falcon i have servicing is cheap as all filters and so on are easy to buy and aftermarket companys have them covered.
