My parents had that model Rover.

I think every electrical circuit in the car went bad within the first 18 months.

I think Dad wore the bonnet release out before the tyres.

He had 3 Toyota Crown station wagons before that that were very reliable.

I think those Rovers were like flashy girlfriends, high maintenance and only fun for a short time.

I remember them well, went on a 4 day course down to the Coventry factory for the SD1 when they first came out. Even though the engines where bullet proof ,the rest of the car was crap, rotten body work and yes your right the electric's where shocking :D they where a lot easier to work on than the earlier P6 but the P6 was more reliable.

Remember them well, was a huge fan of Tony Pond who rallied the Computervision SD1 prior to Austin Rover trying and ultimately failing to be a contender in the WRC with the Metro 6R4,  a beautiful but flawed Group B rally car, again Pond made me fall in love with this machine, had the ability to be a real force but really just showed where British engineering and technology was going.....

remember calling the police the filth  aswell lol...
my dad could never afford a car..we had to make do with a Vauxhall viva van..sometimes there could be up to 8 of us crammed in the back of that..good times though
