If the heater direction is set eg to feet and is then set to windscreen, switching on the fan causes AC light to come on.

Seems a bit odd and wondered if this is right?

Whenever you set the direction to windscreen it defaults to A/C on for maximum defogging.

I've had a few other cars do that too, although I tend to set auto to off and adjust everything manually.

My current Holden Calais can be left off by default. I think the i30 can by a combination of button presses (refer to your manual or someone might know the trick off hand)

Our last 2 x i30's have only had manual a/c

Auto-defogging can indeed be disengaged (I turned it off on my 2014 GD2) - should be in your manual how to.

Having a swatch in the manual right now.

Cant see anything about deselecting this auto ac stuff for manual ac equipped cars.

At page 4/128 it talks about cancelling auto defogging.

Maybe it cant be switched off in my Active model.

The windscreen clears much quicker when the A/C is on, when it has done its job I switch the airflow to the cabin and sometimes turn A/C off.  It has never bothered me. :)

.......think I must be a control freak

TBH I wondered initially if this was supposed to happen or whether there was a problem.

Thanks for all the input and help:)

It annoyed me that the AC turned on just because the sensor detected condensation. Worst of all, it couldn't be turned off until the defogging was complete.

Get it turned off Stu!
