If your New Year’s resolution is to be more punctual, then Lidl’s Auriol clock is the one for you. Not only will it get you somewhere on time, you’ll actually be an hour early – completely unintentionally.

The discount supermarket has been forced to recall the radio-controlled range it dubbed ‘the most accurate clock in the world’ after customers noticed that it was automatically resetting itself to German time.

The £8.99 Auriol model uses the DCF radio signal – transmitted from Frankfurt in Germany – to set its time automatically.

Funny thing is I bought it on 18th Dec and phoned up Lidl h/o on 18 Dec, to be told a recall was being undertaken. A few days later it appeared on Hot UK Deals as a bargain buy.

I bet the clock was not made in Germany, probably Czech Republic or China.   The Germans are too clever to make a dodgy clock. :crazy1:

I mean the Panzers and the Stukas never broke down. :blubber:

Someone will be getting a butt kicking.

Also I love the non-use of punctuation in the statement from the rep (don't know if this is what was released by Lidl or what the journalist wrote given a spoken statement...

Quote
“The Auriol Wall Clock went on sale on the 21st December. The issue was brought to our attention the same day and we issued a product recall. We'd advise any customers who are having problems to return the item to store for a full refund and apologise for any inconvenience caused,” stated Sophie Lambert-Russell, a spokeswoman for Lidl.

I am trying to work out why the customers need to apologise for any inconvenience caused  :D

As an offshoot, I heard on the grapevine Lidl, the poor mans Aldi could arrived in OZ in a couple of years. When in UK recently went in a couple of Lidls, cheap as.  But then most supermarkets in UK have cheaper prices than OZ.
Must be the EU. :victory:
