Hi all,
I haven't posted here in a while (mostly for lack of issues with my i30
) but something that has become progressively worse is now really bugging me and I would like to get to the bottom if it.
If my car 'flexes' by going up a pavement, a driveeway or a speedbump I get a creak/squeak from the rear of the car towards the hatch. I have adjusted the rubber stoppers hundreds of times to no avail.
I have found that if I spray some silicone spray on the rubber seal it goes away for a week or two, but as soon as it dries out the noise returns. The rubber is still in good condition, there is no sideways play on the hatch itself and the latch is still 100% operational. I have noticed that some of the paint on the inside of the hatch has chafed off where the plastic trim touches it near the latch area so I presume that has something to do with the noises I am getting. I also tried removing the trim and putting foam tape around the edges where the plastic contacts the paintwork, but this doesn't seem to solve it. It really does seem like the noise is from the metal of the hatch contacting the rubber seal on the rest of the body, if that makes sense.
Anyone else here have this issue? I am contemplating smearing the rubber seal full of grease but it's a bit of a messy solution to be honest, and I would like to avoid having it get dusty and making a nice grinding paste to remove the rest of the paintwork on the hatch.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated
