How hard are the genuine mudflaps/guards to fit?

Like these:

Do you have to punch holes though the wheel arch liners? Are the mount holes already in the arches and under the rear bumper?

I'd know if I had and i30 of course. 51 days to go....

I've got them on mine.

Got them FOC from the dealer who fitted them FOC.

Your dealer may fit FOC if you buy them from them. Just ask and see what they say.

I don't think I'd have any problem fitting them, I was just curious if the mount holes already exist, so if I want to take them off in the summer I can do so without leaving new man-made holes!

I fitted mine, they're pretty easy to fit and don't require any drilling. Depending how wide your wheels are you would probably find it easier to fit them if you jacked the car up though.

In Australia (not sure about over the pond) they don't offer mudflaps that fit around the genuine side skirts so on cars fitted with the skirts you can only fit mudflaps to the rear, unless you're clever with the cutting and heating tools and can remould a set.

I had a lash at it and they didn't look too bad I suppose, but they didn't look too great either

Not quite sure what I think of these...

yeah, I'm not always keen on track stripes on modern cars - I quite like them on the new Commodore SS, but on an i30...

I guess it's horses for courses - has anyone seen them on a car in the flesh?

i guess i'm the opposite, i don't like the stripes much on the holden (but then i don't like that car much at all) and i think the stripes look quite cute on the Swifts and Minis. no idea whether it would look any good on the i30 without seeing it for myself.

i did stripes on a barina the other day

I think they are genuine Hyundai parts. I have noticed in the gallery somewhere that there is a member with them.

I like the Stripes on Bumkin Blue with white stripes, i think would need different coolour stripes to match different colours. but i'm not into stripes .
what i think is the i30 should loose the black window sills, i think they are like the black door handles and should be same colour as the car, look at the black i30's and you get my idea.
cheers

I've found somewhere cheap in korea I can import the genuine mudguards, but they say they don't come with any screws. Are the screws already in the car by chance?

I can't remember to be honest, I think there is a scrivet in the kit that you need. If it's cheap enough I'm sure you can wrangle something that'll work.  :D

I think the screws are there already holding bits of trim, although from memory some or all of the new ones were longer.  Pretty sure the extra length was not really required, at least for all of them.

Just fitted mine. Took just under an hour. Would have taken less time had one of the rear wheel arch bolts not seized.

Anyway.. all the screws (and two bolts) are included in that package, plus 4 rawl-plug like screws that feed into empty slots.

I can also confirm that the front wheels do need to be removed as one of the three fitting screws is well inside the wheel arch and cant be reached with the wheel in place.

Overall my recommendation for anyone wanting to fit these as after-market should do so as soon as possible, as on Fergie all the existing screws & bolts were difficult to remove due to the length of time they've been in place (19 months).

Thanks for the update. I'm curious are the new screws longer than the original ones?

Will I need to take the front wheels off even if I have a stubby phillips screwdriver?

Sorry for the mundane questions, one gets bored waiting.....

By turning the front wheels - left or right - would this not allow access?

You can see the 3rd of the 3 retaining screws is well inside the arch but you might be able to reach with a stubby posidrive

Yes they are longer, but the originals would still be fine as they are quite long anyway.

All fitting holes are already there :)

In a garage they would probable put it up on the ramps.

If so, then you would get at the far screw from underneath.

You will notice the difference as there should be less spray and the rear will be cleaner, especially the rear window.

PS neat job

Cheers eye.. they weren't too difficult to fit as they are genuine guards (from the Korean link that Lorian provided)

Just goes to show you how dirty the camera can make a freshly washed car appear, and how little bits were missed by me when I washed her (earlier today)

You can also see the Mica reflecting back as coloured dots :D
