Hi,

I have recently picked up a hyper silver i30 cw sx crdi manual.  It is a really great machine for the money and the flat back seat allows me to get two child seats and a third person in that row.  The little diesel powerplant is loosening up nicely and the gearshift is very positive.  If you keep the car above 1500 rpm in fourth and fifth it is a pleasure to drive.  The lower gears pull from 1,000 rpm and fourth from 1,300 rpm.

The rear also has superb legroom - as much as many of the SUVs on the market.  The boot is not the biggest but as it has a luggage blind you can just retract this and load it above window height without worrying what to do with the parcel shelf.

The roof bars will come in handy for carting  bikes around and to attach a roof box for longer trips.

The ride comfort is absolutely superb and the handling OK if not terribly exciting.  The power steering is ultra light  at parking speeds but a bit heavy and artficial feeling whilst on the move.

I wanted a manual (Autos are not my thing especially the four speed variety) and the diesel wagon only comes as an SX.  The steering wheel is nasty as is the gear knob and the rest of the interior a bit dark.  It is  a nice bonus with the CW to get the SLX hatch trim.  The folding mirrors are great as are the indicators housed on the mirrors.  The car is certainly no beauty but it is not offensive.  Hyper silver is quite discreet


I am on my first full tank of diesel and reckon I will get 700ks from it - I have been driving round Brisbane in traffic for most of this time and have had one freeway trip of 100ks.


If I didn't need wheels quickly I would have waited and specced it with curtain airbags and fogs and cruise.

The car came with two flip keys and i have already lost one which brings me round to the reason for my post.  The supplying dealer has quoted $520 for the replacement - has anyone else had a new flip key  supplied in Oz and if so at what cost?

All i all the car fulfills its brief well and is the only small wagon with diesel power available at less than $25k dollars in Oz.  Now if Hyundai who own KIA brought he Ce ed to Oz there would be a battle royal on as it has a much larger boot and in some might say it is a better looking vehicle.  It comes with a seven year warranty in the UK.

Whilst I agree that the Ceed would give the i30 a bit of competition in the class don't be deceived by our 7yr warranty, it looks good until you actuall start digging into it and discover that the drivetrain is the only bit covered for 7 years (the rest of the car is 5 years) and that the warranty conditions to fulfill the 7 year warranty are even tighter than Hyundai.  Even some motoring commentators in the UK have commented that actually Hyundai's warranty is better...................

I find you can "throw" the hatch around and is very stable - seems to have a low centre of gravity.

Anyone had to endure the pain of buying a new flip key in Oz and if so how much?

$520 from supplying dealer seems too steep?

have you looked everywhere (including the last place possible) for the lost key? that is a lot of money for sure

Hey Jock, sorry to hear about your lost flip key, i know how frustrating that can be, as i had it happen to me
then somehow a week latter my key turned up in a very unexpected place.
so like Snowcherry i would wait first, in the mean time take great care not to loose the one you have.

also after reading your opening post i think Hy need you on the team!

I was just told today by the Hyundai dealer where I bought my car (Brisbane) that a second remote key will cost me $600, so your quote of $520 sounds a little better at least.
(Because it's an 08 model, I only got the one remote key.  )

Does anybody know if the alarm upgrade which takes you from Cat2 to Cat1 involves key replacement??

If so then the upgrade cost is £113.88 and therefore would be cheaper than a new key and also enhances security...................

No, I believe it adds ultrasonic detectors to the existing system.

The guy at the service centre who told me it would cost $600 also said they only introduced the 2 keyfob policy around 9 months ago.  I thought they did that back in 2008??  (My car was manufactured 1/6/08.)

Without checking date, September 2008 build. Two remote keys. Oz. I was quoted $AUD400 for a second Getz remote key (I assume similar) but went instead for an emergency key that will start the car (has a transponder chip) but will set off the alarm because only the remote key will disarm it, for about $125.
