So my old summer tires were worn blank by the time winter came, I've been browsing, reading reviews and checking prices since and finally settled on something.

I just ordered a full set of Michelin Energy-Saverplus G1 195/65 R15 91H. Feels odd to order when there is still 50cm of snow outside, but I want to have them ready for when spring comes round. I bought matte black Dezent TD rims too ~1600kr or ~$250AUD per wheel for them, half for the rims half for the tires, fitting and shipping included. EU is good for stuff that's made in Germany, same rims alone would have been +1800kr locally!

I know its against popular convention to go from 16" to 15", but roads here are so lumpy from all the thawing damage that going bigger just makes the ride unbearable and risks getting pinchflats on all the holes/ridges in the road unless going 20kph(and I'm not doing that for 150km/day). Despite, 195/65/15's are about 20-25% cheaper than 205/55/16's here.

There an A in the wet, B for rolling resistance and 69db and several reviewers seems to get 50k+ km out of them. I'll post again here when I have driven them some.

Now to get the old OEM 16" rims sold to someone who drives a bit better maintained roads. :)

Try hitting up your nearest Hyundai service/parts for some rims, they tend to have a surplus of rims due to customers buying upgrades through them, Hyundai here were selling off 16" standard steel rims for $80 each.

Also remember the stud/lug pattern is quite common. 5x114.3mm or 5x4.5"
Most Toyota, Ford, Mitsubishi, Mazda, Honda, Ford and more im sure use this PCD. You just need to make sure your offset/backspacing is correct.

Heck even my Wrangler uses that stud pattern.

They finally arrived, with another 10cm of snow last night, probably going to be mid april before I can try them on.



I think they will look great on the car, once I cleaned them of sealant and washed the car. :)

I got the tires fitted yesterday, had a woop/scrape sound at low speeds doing right hand turns. So up with the car and off with th rear left tyre, looks fine but the inner weights have a scrapemark on. 3 minutes with a file to remove a ridge on the lower contol arm joint that was scraping and the sound is gone.

Went for a 60km round trip to buy some potatoes to put into the ground when it thaws. Tyres are nice and stable when cornering, quieter than the hankook ventus prime 2s they replaced. Inflated to 2.8kg.
Hard to say anything about economy yet, will get back on that when ive driven a tank or two.

The difference in weight makes a positive difference to how responsive the car feels. New 15” wheels weigh 16.2kg/each, the old 16” oem ones were 17.5kg. My Studded 15” winter tyres are 18.5kg.


Same pic as the other thread, but I like the car in all black, might need to paint the calipers and hubs black this summer though. :)

Got to try the stopping power today when a deer ran out in front of me from the sunny side at sunset. Very good, fast and stable braking, feels safe to know they do their most important job well. Dry road and +13c.

Stopped 2m before hitting it, pretty sure I’d have gone over it with my old tires.

On our recent road trip there were deer warnings near Port Macquarie and obviously lots of Kangaroo and other warnings in other parts. Fortunately we did very little driving in low light conditions when the risk is higher.

I don't remember if I promised some pictures of how tight a fit the 15" rims are, but I'll post em anyway!

Front brake caliper


Rear control arm(i think its called). This is the one I had to file off a 2mm weld ridge that kept scratching the tire weights when doing left turns making an awful racket.


Tomorrow I should have some nice data on consumption too, had a good week of weather and just ordinary commuting on the tank, although three regens so far...

I just got a sub 4l/100km tank on these tires aswell. Average thus far is 4.39l/100km(got 9k km on the tires). Spring for some reason always seems to give worse economy than fall, weird though because we had july temps in may.

Car does roll further in downhills, so resistance must be lower. I think either the dpf is clogging or egr blocking is to blame for the worse economy than expected. Have not yet serviced my brakes since november, so thats long overdue too, might be sticking slightly, there getting hot.

Overall Im still happy with the tires, good stability, handling, comfort and lower noise than the hankooks.

That's amazing Jeff! I've been known to do that in a fortnight.. With that sort of mileage I'm surprised you are worried about weight saving and fuel economy. You've probably spent less than $250 on fuel in a year.  :eek:

I had to put my winter tires on already, expecting 15cm of snow tonight.

Done 23000km on these now, they have worn 3mm, down from 7mm so about 53% towards illegal which should put them somewhere in the ballpark of 43000km of useable thread, lasting another season then.

I've been having some trouble with my rear right brake so that tire has worn a little more but it gets swapped with front left next season which has a little extra on it right now so it should even out.
