My experience has been light on when circuit broken, but goes out when repaired. The 2 front sensors on the GD are on the sides of the sub frame, they could have some road grime on the connectors. But they are fairly well protected as are the internal crash sensors.
If an airbag is disconnected, same thing, light on or off. Thing is, for obvious reasons, all these connectors are well made and hard to separate.
That leads to the most vulnerable component (assuming the programmed crash module is not having the odd hissy fit) the clock spring under your steering wheel. Tell dummy that it is easy to replace and if he accepts that you are sane and not a habitual liar,, its the obvious place to start. Next the module, no need to programme, the correct one does the job immediately.
