I don't think so, it's not in the limitation clause that I can see:

http://www.hyundai.co.uk/owners/5YearWarranty/limitedCoverage/

Hi Lorian, when I went into my dealership earlier this year about a broken tyre pressure sensor they had a list of items that were limited cover these included bulbs, wiper blades and on the list was audio equipment. I'll check when I go in for service in June.

Hang on a minute.... you mean you put *MORE* than on CD in the CD player at any one time......

only one edition in aus lets you have 6 cd's i think?
i'd have been happy with a single disc player, it was the amped speakers i was after. but i use my USB 99% of the time, i use the cd player mostly when i've bought a new cd (which is a bit naughty as i hate putting brand new cd's straight in the car and should know better!)

anyway i tried the fuse thing but it didn't help sadly.
instead of mecha error i now have 'reading disc' and you can hear it trying to do something, maybe align the disc? it sort of 'double clicks' - but like long slow clicks not quick ones. and that is it. its stuck on that. even when you change back to radio or usb you can hear it still trying to do something. which is vaguely perturbing.

thankfully the usb still works.

Have you tried pressing eject while the ignition is off? (yes it should still be active)

Also you could try holding down the eject button while you turn the unit on.

Otherwise it's a trip to the dealer.

This whole thing reeks of some EVIL DRM issue.

I'd be curious to know what actually caused this issue when you get it fixed Tracy.

car still at dealers and i don't have all the info but update today was they are replacing stereo unit completely.
they have also disconnected old one (after putting it back in) as they were concerned of it 'shorting'.
[no idea if they got my cd's out -forgot to ask]

the noises it was making had increased in duration and intensity, yesterday i was ready to rip it out with bare hands it was that bad and had music up very loud to cover it. but i am sad i will have no music to listen to until replacement arrives.  :'(
which may take weeks, apparently.

You will have to use an Ipod or other MP3 Player with earphones (although I suppose that is not recommended while driving)

well not much else to say, they don't know what caused the problem. they couldn't get the cd's out.
the new one has to come from korea (grrrr) so long wait with no music or time etc until then. they'll try to get cd's out when they take it out again but may need to send it back to hyundai -

What a great shame that the only CD in existence of that extremely rare private band recording got damaged in your Hy cd system. Hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of rare studio stuff destroyed in one fell swoop. What a claim that would be.

If you fancy going halves on the compo I'll start the ball rolling... ;)

well i'm very happy to say i now have a new stereo in my car
BLISS BLISS!! MUSIC!!!!

the usb is now working again as normal, and is not resetting.
i haven't tested any cd's yet (little nervous). all my settings obviously way out and have to redo all that yet.
i got my cd's back from the other one, though initially they said it would be sent back to hyundai and they'd do it, i asked if they could just try! haven't checked to see if they are wrecked yet, but they do look ok scratch wise etc.

total time: 2 weeks for the stereo to arrive from korea. 1 week to wait to be actually booked in  = 3 weeks total.

stereo cost approx $2000
warranty not reset, but still remainder of the 5 years.

when i had originally freaked over how long it would take to order the stereo in, the lady ordering it explained it took longer also because as it was "$2000" [her words] they also had to get some permission from head office to order it - rather than order it directly because it was so expensive.

so erm yeah i guess thats how much it cost
