This is a message aimed at our Negative UK Press - including Laura Kuenssberg of the BBC, Robert Peston of ITV, Beth Rigby of Sky, Piers Morgan of ITV, James O'Brien - LBC, BBC News in general and all the other negative UK press and social media.

Journalism is missing the general "mood" in this great country of ours.

We do not want or need blame to be constantly apportioned. We do not want daily criticism of our Government who are doing their very best in a very difficult and unprecedented global emergency. This crisis is not of their making, there is no precedent of how to best handle it and I'm sure everyone is doing their level best to get it right.

But time and again we see our negative press, radio, TV and social media, carping at and trying to trip up our politicians simply to score points, instead of asking questions that will provide positive and reassuring answers for all of us.

Whilst reporting Covid-19 deaths is important – so is reporting the large number of people who recover from it every day. Information that is sadly lacking.

They all got the people’s "mood" wrong in the Referendum, Brexit, General Election and now this Covid-19 virus crisis.

We want and need a constructive contribution to the national effort to help us out of this crisis. We need hope, optimism and faith, with less negativity and more positive support from these journalists and amateur “experts”.  It is time you all changed your negative and political rhetoric for the health of this nation and start supporting our Government.

(These aren't all my words but they are my sentiments entirely)

@asathorny : This is a democracy and we are all equally entitled to our own riduculous opinions.

The constant argument about the preparedness of the NHS does not chime very well with the fact that unlike Italy and Spain, despite some problems, the NHS has not been overwhelmed by a major pandemic and has coped with it with great fortitude.

I participate in 3 other forums and have posted the same message on all of them. So far, and including your post, only 2 people have taken issue with my opinion whereas I have had 41 positive reponses.  Confirmation that despite my recent hand injury, I still have a grip.

I also expect an overwhelmingly positive reponse to the speech made by the PM this evening. It was Churchilian in capturing the nations mood.

BJ's speech was superb. Well delivered and full of my own expectations.

Imo BJ's speech tonight just made what all here have been doing over the past week or so official.

His forward plan is a "MAY BE" depending on the condition of the 5  markers.

It was reported today that cases have risen in countries were lockdown has eased.
Therefore, cases will probably increase in the UK and easing will be put on hold.

The press are a joke, both in their inability to question properly, and in the sheer amount of fake stories they are running.

Notwithstanding their inadequacies, I'm not all out for Boris either - I'd like him to focus on the collateral damage - cancer patients seem to have been thrown under the bus.

I have a member of staff  who's cancer treatment has been cancelled for "8 weeks" and a neighbour who's cancer operation has been delayed indefinitely. I don't know if this is a political or medical decision to empty all wards at any cost, but it needs re-balancing right now.

I'm not convinced this is the beginning of the end.

Same over here, my Stepdaughter needs an urgent biopsy for a lump in the breast and even that was deferred. Think it might finally happen tomorrow .  :sweating:

Great words and the same here.
Australia has done a great job at both federal and state level from both sides of politics with COVID-19, but the media still attacks, especially our own ABC.
