Hi all,

Hoping I might be able to get some advice.

I have a second hand i30 1.4 petrol manual with 101,000 miles. Since buying it I've noticed a metallic rasping/grinding sound which seems to come from the front left of the car. The noise sounds very similar to the bearing noise in the below video at 3:01.

I've tried to record a video of the noise however it's hard to capture as it gets drowned out buy road noise. Best I've got is below:

I've managed to establish the below:

It can only be heard when driving, not revving the engine in neutral - makes me think its not exhaust related.

The nosie isn't constant, but can be heard when I either accelerate quite hard in second, third or forth gear up to around 2500rpm when it stops, or if I pull away in too high a gear (such as pulling away at around 10-15mph in third) - makes me think its not a wheel bearing.

The noise stops instantly if I stop accelerating or depress the clutch.

The noise seems to rise in pitch with the engine revs.

There seems to be no loss in power, judder or other effect on the car associated with it.

The noise is at all times and doesn't seem to start or stop when the engine is cold/hot.

I've had a mechanic have a quick look over for anything obvious such as exhaust leaks or loose heat shields when they were adjusting the hamdbrake, and they've not seen anything obvious.

Any advice anyone can offer as to a cause would be greatly appreciated.
