I have an 2018 I30 which has been having issues with Android Auto for some time. The issue started after an Android update some time ago.
My issue is that when I connect my phone, a Samsung S21 with all the latest updates, the car will intermittently not start Android Auto on the car screen. I get a message that says, cannot read phone, unlock phone to connect Android Auto. I have to unlock the phone and reconnect the phone to the car with the phone screen unlocked. This never happened previously.
As usual with intermittent issues the issue did not show itself so the correct error message did not show on the screen or the phone. I will update the error above when it fails to connect again.
I have changed cables, cleared the cache and data on Android Auto app on the phone all to no avail.
Deleted the car and reconnected the car in Android Auto.
Toggled the Start Android Auto while locked option in the app.
I suspect that it maybe an issue with an old version of the Entertainment system firmware, this was last update sometime ago before this issue appeared.
I cannot give you the version number of the Entertainment system firmware as I do not know how to obtain this. If someone can tell me how to obtain this I would be happy to provide this detail if it helps solve the issue.
A couple of questions.
1: Has anyone had a similar issue? If so how was it fixed?
2. If it is as I suspect a firmware update on the Entertainment system, how do I go about updating it? I live in Australia and I do not want to back to Hyundai due to a couple of bad experiences with their service.
