I'm thinking of putting on an exhaust tip (coz I can't really afford to put on a new exhaust system) so I thought I'd go the cheaper option until I can get the real deal.

Has anyone done this?

I've noticed that the std pipe is oval shaped and points downwards and the tips I've seen are round.
I'm also concerned about the pipe touching the bumper and getting damaged from the heat.

Any advice here?

Neither at this stage - more aesthetics.
When I'm ready for a proper exhaust upgrade I'll be looking for performance.....

I went down to Supercheap and they weren't very helpful....
I may just go to an exhaust specialist.

My feeling is that the exhaust end/muffler will need to be replaced/modified due to the shape and curved pipe.....

But isn't it hidden at the moment? You want to change it for one you can see more?

Something like that.  Dual chrome tips from the single exhaust.
Eventually I'd like to have a dual exhaust with chrome tips exposed.

cut it off carefully with an angle grinder/air hacksaw and weld the new tip on... even a $200 arc welder will do the job!

or take the said tip to an exhaust shop and say "i want this there" and point at the exhaust!

The guys at the exhaust specialists will be able to adapt any tip to your system without too much drama.
Probably will look nice but I'm with 'Lorian' in that I like the clean lines of a hidden exhaust.  :)

That's my feeling - I do like the look of the quad exhaust as well.  But it's an expensive experiment if I go ahead and then don't like it in the flesh....
So I thought I'd just put the tip on and see how it goes.  I might just see if I can sit the tip on before I purchase it as an initial attempt before doing any mods.....

@ oldies.....maybe I'm  not so young myself, but anyhoo each to their own!

Hey Clackerz have a good look through the Korean Club pix that Russ has posted ... lots of them have quad exhausts (and they do look good if done properly)

Thanks.....
Yeah was looking at just putting on a chrome tip to the existing pipe, but on inspection noticed that the current pipe is oval and then curves downward.  All the tips I've seen are round.  So to do this would require me to mod or replace the current pipe.

But if I'm going to this trouble may as well do it properly and get a dual exhaust.....just alot more expense.  I'll only go to the extra expense if I can get something out of it - i.e. power or sound.

Will see.....

and you will have to cut your bumper up for the pipes,or they will hang to low.

Couple of years ago I fitted a stainless steel "tip" to my exhaust. Unfortunately it contained a baffle which affected performance so I removed the "tip".

Should have taken some better pics of it, but here's where I posted my details:

^^Thanks for the pic.
I think I'll just put this idea on the backburner.
I may just leave it as is.  I don't want to go and cut the bumper up just for a pipe or two.
It looks like it's that or get a different rear bumper or a kit to suit.
Maybe if I win Tattslotto......

I didn't have to cut mine... it just looks like that. It actually looked quite smart when it was on
